jamzee Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 (edited) hi friends treated myself to the Mars Mission Ultra Drill Walker for Christmas and have just built it ~ WOW its huge, magnificently spectacular and unbelievably awesome! i can't understand how Mars Mission sets have been so underated or that they havn't been pushed more into the eye of people. i can't stop looking at this breathtaking build and if you have even a passing interest in space ~ which you may have as you are here! ~ try and pick up this set. it is terrific on its own and looks very special with the rest of my Mars Mission fleet. particularly strange is that how the pics of this set don't seem to do it justice or convey the size of the beast!! being a huge fan of classic space i was mesmerised at times through the build at the nod to the classic space parts used ~ genious next; hypersonic operations aircraft..! can't wait ~ my goodness, what a great hobby... xenologer Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Now that you mention it. I haven't heard a thing about Mars Mission ever since everyone started getting excited about Space Patrol. I guess the MM theme is ended? Quote
jamzee Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 can't wait? - play this... HUGE space bargains on LS@H re MM... enjoy now with what we DO know while we wait until nearer next Christmas for SP Quote
mania3 Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I've actually bought all of the Mars Mission sets, save this one and the Crystal Reaper. They're still on my list, but what is the general consensus on the Drill Walker? I was second guessing it, wondering if I needed another two large ground vehicles in that theme. They look good, but I wonder if like the Armored Drilling Unit, which was a really pleasant surprise when I built it. As of now, I'm a bit wishy-washy about the two sets. Quote

I own both of these sets and I can say without a doubt that these are the best in the entire theme. Fear not my friend- the Reaper and Drill Walker are absolutely amazing sets and I still have both proudly displayed on my shelf. In my opinion, they're way better than the Hypersonic Operations Aircraft. Quote
mania3 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 In my opinion, they're way better than the Hypersonic Operations Aircraft. Yeah, that was a big let down. I was really looking forward to my first "big ship" of a theme after coming out of my dark ages. I wasn't impressed, at all. Luckily my second was buying my old Galactic Mediator off of Bricklink. M'Kyuun Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I'll put in a good word for Crystal Reaper and Ultra Drill Walker as well. Both are big, beautiful sets, the gems of the theme , IMHO. The direction of these sets was towards the classic, and i hope we see more in the new space line. i loves me a good robot, and i hope there will be a well designed one in the new line, with a different design aesthetic from EF. Something practical, like a cargo loading bot, or a construction bot, or a space ship repair bot, would be awesome, with an aesthetic leaning more towards industrial than anime. Ripley's loader comes to mind. Quote
mania3 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Okay, so about two days after posting my hesitation, I found this set on sale at a LEGO retail store and only yesterday put it together. But, I have to say, the Ultra-Drill Walker is incredible. What a great set! The three figures in this set are my favorite from ANY MM set to date. And the set was quick and fun to build, yet very impressive on my shelf. Glad I got it and thanks again for all the advice and recommendation! Quote
Algernon Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 MM seems to shine in it's ground vehicle selection. Quote
mania3 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 MM seems to shine in it's ground vehicle selection. Yes. It really does. I've broken down every other set from the series and put it away, presumably for a long time. But not the ground vehicles. They'll be on my shelf until Space Police III, probably. Quote
