Hey,

I posted this drawing on C-C a while back, and then I realised that it would be perfect for this forum, so here ya go, kiddos!:

Now post your Viking drawings, and if you don't have any, well draw some now! :^D

Comments are welcome!

As you can see I went ahead and made a few alterations to your drawing to help show you what I think you could improve on. If you are going for a cartoon like look then what I say may or may not help you. If you are looking to draw something somewhat realistic on perhaps more of a manga style then this might help.

The head is somewhat off for the body as a whole. Not just is size really but in shape. If you go by the size of the head you will need to remember a few things. At the half way mark of the head you will see the eyes and ears. Though not exactly half you will generally see them just above, right on or below the very middle of the head. The bridge of the nose also should start here and end a little above the 3/4 mark. If you look at the red circle you can see where I mean. The "bulb" and nostrils should be entirely located within that circle unless the person has a rather large nose or it is more of a beak like nose which may dip down a bit more. The eyes should have lids for both the top and the bottom. You can see in brown the little movement I would suggest for this. The mouth is very low and too close to the chin. Though this is possible for people to have their mouth near there chin it is usually because the chin is smaller and closer to the mouth. Not because there is a huge gap between the nose and the mouth. I added a few crease lines as he looked a little young with out them. You can see where the upper lip is covered over with the hair and the bottom lip is exposed. The red lines in the face show the overall shape though I think you would see some of the ear on both sides which you didn't have. Another small thing is that your viking has no neck. I don't mean he has a thick neck so it is the same size as the head I mean it doesn't exist. I drew in a little red box to show about where the neck would be. As for the rest of the drawing the shoulder on this fellow should sit out at about the width of the head from the neck. You can see the red line in the extended area where this should go. This will drop the armor down a little and give him a little more girth. Because he is a viking I also added a little extra to the beard for fun.

I hope this will help you in future drawings. I am not sure if this is the "better" you were looking for but it is something.

As far as your style it is clear that you can draw and make your lines well. the details in the helmet are excellent and the horns attached look quite nice. The overall shape of the head is done well if somewhat cartoonish. The body looks odd due to there being no neck. You should consider drawing in pencil only and working on adding some shading under the rim of the cap, around the eyes, under the nose and near the mouth. If you get a little practice doing that switch back to color and try shading that way.

On a final note, unless the cut on his face is just a scratch you would probably see a little bloody cheek bone through there. That is a big cut.

Have fun and keep drawing.

SuvieD surely knows a lot in drawing....... I wish to see ur drawing. :)

And so you shall.

Though it is quite late to be adding to this topic. I never got around to actually drawing this until this week. I put in a hour or two total on it. I would have used pencil and gotten some better shading and detail but I don't have a scanner so I drew it in MS Paint.

Very nice viking you have there. It looks like you use water color markers to add some soft color and it worked nicely. The colors are perfect. A very nice scetchy look that is uniform throughout. This would make an excellent finish piece if you ever took the time to make it so.

A little more work on the wrist and perhaps a wee bit more length in the legs (unless he is shorter on purpose) would be all you need to make it better. The eyes are good place holders but I wouldn't leave them so dark permanently myself.

It looks like you were inspired by the LEGO viking armor.
