I'm in Scarborough. It's probably unlikely that I'll come though. I'll tell you if I actually plan on doing so :sweet:

That is far, but it would be nice to see Eurobricks's only Arch Duke in person! , Please contact me if you change your mind though!

sounds good, looks like a fun time, lots of nice free stuff to be won. If your planning on going, maybe we can meet up? Preferably on the Saturday, cause I don't think those minifigure t-shirts will fit me

I'll probably be there too. What time is opening?

If I can wake up early enough, I'll likely check it out on the day it opens.

I know that May 13 is the "grand" opening (even says on Lego's site itself) but on the Sherway Gardens website it still lists under April 21st as "Lego store coming soon". Does that actually mean anything or is it just lack of updating that it's still listed like that? Perhaps a "soft" opening? I've read from other threads on these forums that Lego stores tend to also have "soft" openings prior to the "grand" opening also.

The soft opening is May 5th.

Sounds like you guys should find a Denny's/IHOP/whatever and meet up for breakfast before heading to the store. Could be the start/reboot of a LUG for the area.

Is this for certain? Where did you find this out? Its not that I have a lack of faith in your info finding skills, it is just that I don't want to arrive on May 5th to an empty store and look like a total noob.

I've heard this from an Ambassador and someone who's gotten a job at the store.

I'm hoping to be at the grand opening, too. IF I can manage to shoehorn my butt out of bed at an early enough hour, since that's a long haul across the city by transit.

I hope that minifig collection is worth the effort. Anyone know if it's "Toronto specific", or is it just the same set that's been used elsewhere for other grand openings?

Good thing I popped back into this thread. I was all ready and planning to make it there for the big opening Friday morning, but the exclusive bonus for showing up extra early is only available on Saturday? Getting there bright and early on Friday is far more easy for me than Saturday, to be honest. I guess, though, if I'm on my way by... 8:30, I could make it for open. Hopefully there aren't 300 more insane people than me.

What might the 'exclusive' minifigure set be? Is that gonna be the entire grand opening exclusive set? Seems a little half-baked compared to some of the other neat, specific stuff other stores have gotten [i was hoping for a micro-CN Tower, although I guess that'd be sorta boring in reality]. Unless, of course, it's somehow very 'Canadian' [or better, very Torontonian], but I can't imagine what that might be. A Mountie? A Kensington Hipster? Rob Ford? The Indianapolis one was three people watching NASCAR, so there's some hope for this, maybe.

Either way, I'll have to re-plan my entire schedule. We should make a list of people going, so we can organize a line-holding so as to bogart the exclusives. That's what adult collectors are all about, yo!

Anyway, I did some reconnaissance at the Sherway yesterday, and the location [still boarded up] looks pretty small, all told.

EDIT: I just read some guy's report about the Indy opening, and he waited in line for 2 hours and was guy #406 out of 500 for the exclusive. I'm starting to wonder if the figures are worth the effort. I'm gonna hafta be on my way by, like, 7. Ugghhhhh.

Judging by previous exclusive minifig sets (Beachwood, OH, Indianapolis, IN & Costa Mesa, CA), I'm assuming that the minifigs are going to fairly generic, which is a shame. It would be nice to receive something that is both exclusive and region specific. One recent example I liked is the Mini Nyhavn for the Copenhagen store, which has exclusive parts in addition to effectively capturing the look of Nyhavn.

Anybody know how busy Lego store grand openings typically are? I hate waiting in lines and would especially hate it if I missed the cutoff.

I noticed that there are only going to be 300 exclusive sets, which is less than the usual 500 for other (American) stores; is Lego trying to shaft Canadians again?

Hey everyone. I'm not sure if anyone can answer this, but has anyone seen any of the new POTC sets in Canadian TRU's? I'm just wondering, because none of the ones near me have them yet, but sometimes their orders are just slow.

None at the TRU at Yonge and Eglinton in Toronto.

We always seem to get the sets last... :hmpf:

I hope you're kidding. We often get the sets before their actual release date, and it's not uncommon to get them before the US...

Sadly I'm not. My local TRU didn't get Pharaoh's Quest until Mid-February. I had to order them online from S@H because there was none in stock. Also, absolutely no stores in town got CM series 1, I searched for weeks for them, but found none.

It's obvious you don't travel. Pharaoh's Quest sets might be out here in the summer. Might be.

"I complained I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet"

Ponder that. Canada's in a very so-so position regarding LEGO.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing several of you at Sherway Gardens in few weeks. I'll probably be there Saturday the 14th in the afternoon. Hopefully the giant R2D2 won't be completed by then. I'd like to add a brick or two (photo op). I'll probably be rocking my:

But sadly no more pink mohawk for those that tune in to theCABG.net.

Pretty sure I'm gonna try to be there fairly early on Friday. I know I'm gonna miss out on the bonus figures, but I think I'd a missed out on the anyways, even if I tried for Saturday morning.

I'll still hope to be one of the first to plunder the wall, or maybe some build-a-figs. If the price stays at $9.99 [which I feel won't be the case, despite the juggernaut that is our current dollar value].

I've also decided that the A1 numero uno thing I'm psyched about having the LEGO store around for is [fingers crossed] polybag sets. I hope they have a good steady stream of them, 'cause they've gotta be the toughest thing to track down here, in my experience.

for those who don't know the canadian prices for the pick a brick cups and build a minis are:

Yeah I've found it very hard to get hold the small Poly sets. Once in while TRU as one but never a complete line up. Looking forward to being able to go to a "real" Lego store. I've been to the Legoland CA in 2008 (spent all about $30 on bricks) and Mall of America in 2002 (dawn of my post Dark Ages bought nothing).
