It's been almost a year of making at least three Lego: Space - The Comic installments per week and I'm mighty curious as to which comics were your favorites. I've gotten an awesome response to everything and have enjoyed discussing the comic with all of you. But I still wonder which comics were the funniest and which stories were the most interesting. So, please help me in my future writing by letting me know which stories appealed to you the most. You can pick multiple choices in each category; I've broken it down into one-shots, stories of 2-4 comics, and stories of 5 comics or more. I also welcome your comments about the comic's first year (almost) and where's it's going.

Thanks!

K.

I loved most all of them, but today to make sure I'm going to have to read through every last one to decide. I'll post later after I've done that.

Sorry for the double post, but last night I read through every last Lego space comic in order in one sitting. It took e a little over three hours

Anyway, I made a heap of observations I'll bring up in the normal thread, but for now I'll say my favourites:

Okay, for the long stories, I chose the DACTA storyline. DACTA was hilariously great but I also love those stories that tie everything together and give you a sense of where it's going.I'd definitely love to see more stories like that which tie things together through a single plot device (in this case a news report) and give you a sense of where it is going.

Another largey was Meteor Madness. Since I'm such a big Shwartz/Valkyrie shipper (my favourite two characters....together!?) this one was also hilariously good. It also took me by great surprise with that final twist, very well planned out. I'd like ot see more overreaching twists like that.

Old Friends was yet another large story I loved. Again like the DACTA story it really tied things together and only got better when the Gemini Twins arrived and Coldwell told his Xenu story. It was also the first interaction of many characters who hadn't met officially in the comic so far (meaning Shwartz and Galanos already knew and met him, but this was the first time we say them meet.)

Yet another largey because I'm getting ridiculous is Thursday Night, At Last. Do you have any idea how long I was waiting for that one? Don't ever do that again to me!

Seriously this was great, anything involving both Shwartz and Valkyrie is. The random UFO and Yeti bits were nice too.

In Search of...the 918 was very cool. It gave us finally a new advancement on the 918 storyline, and the Gemini wins are always a riot. Again, like with most of the other stories here I've mentioned, it's the ones that advance the plot that I really love. Plus a little horror goes a long way, him "saving" that dead guy who was "still alive" was freaky.

Lastly I voted the Advent Calender as my last favourite big story. I love specials, and this is no exception. It's always nice to take a break from the plot and have a cool thing such as this. Plus it gives us a rejog on who's who (I had forgotten about Coldwell and McGann).

Anyway, that's all my favourite large stories, I'll give you a break KDog and let you reply to those first if you wish before I post my favourite medium storylines.

Yes! I don't have to triple post now!

Anyway, onto my favourite medium stories:

Shootin' the solar Breeze:

How could one not love this? The classic opener introducing the friendship between Shwartz and Galanos is so perfectly done, even with the vomiting.

Last Knight:

I'll be honest, the main reason I love this is because of Valkyrie. Though it was also great introducing parallels between her and Shwartz, which is a technique I'd love to see done more often. Also Verwaand's situations are always funny.

Prototypical:

Robot Love mentioning "voluptous nodules", need I say more? Plus you introduced the Star Justice base.

Indiana Shwartz:

Of course I loved this. As much as I was disappointed with the movie at the time (I enjoy it for what it is now thanks to you :classic:) these comics are top tier for me. The highlander reference was a brilliant twist on the cliche. Mainly of course the fact that Valkyrie and Shwartz finally get together in the middle of an epic Indy/Ford praise fest was the clincher. Definitely would love to see more specials like this, that are in continuity but celebrate a time, event of movie saga.

Blank Attack:

Xenu praising Cpldwell is introduced, as well as the first official death in Lego Space comics. The main reason I love this is because of the Magnetiser (have you got it yet?) and the ancient speaking dragons, which were downright hilarious.

Last Face You See:

I'm gonna be totally honest when I say this thing scared the crap out of me when I first read it. From the mini-twist that he'd been dead from the beginning to the radically bleak tone it sent literal shivers up my spine. The ending too after that long darkness was done so well too, I read it about five times on that day. Yep, a hugie on my list would be to occasionally have more mega-dark comics like this one. Only where appropriate of course, and definitely not often, but to really set a tone it works so well. Creepy :oh3:

Revenge is a Dish Best Served with Champagne:

Oh my goodness. Despite initial thoughts that this might not be a fitting punishment I was so proved wrong. The ending was the icing on the cake though, with him liking it. you really need to follow up on that poor brainwashing of Shwartz

There we go! I'll post my favourite one-shots later, once again thanks for this awesome comic though KDog, definitely gave me a smile on some dark days this year.

Catching up!

Batbrick, I'm impressed by you undertaking the now huge task of reading every comic in a sitting. I'm susrpised at how many I'm done. Imagine if it was daily. (Well, it's not hard to imagine; just look at the Advent calendar.)

DACTA is very useful for tieing everything together. That's how I plan to continue to use them, although I do have a story in mind that will feature them and their headquarters, now that Iron Moose gave me a good trade and I have the hard-to-find DACTA set. The news van shown in the Advent Calendar storyline is from that set.

If you liked Meteor Madness and Schwartz and Valkyrie, you'll probably like the Metetor Madness II storyline that began this week. :)

Like in "Old Friends," I want to continue showing the core group of friends that are tied into almost every storyline - Schwartz, Galanos, Weiss, Amarillo and Red. If you haven't noticed, they represent all the colors the Classic Space astronaut was available in. The one exception is Galanos, who was a typical blue astronaut but upgraded to the blue Futuron uniform. However, his brother has taken on the old blue suit.

I'm sorry I kept you waiting for so long for Schwartz and Valkyrie's date! If it's any consolation, Meteor Madness II is the story of their second date. I didn't wait as long this time. Schwartz and Valkyrie are a little bit hard to write together because I don't want her to become too "soft." I think you'll soon see how I avoid that.

A lot of the storylines, like the 918, are taking their time to build, just because I have so much going on at once. My goal is to show how everything is tied together and planned out. I do actually have a plan, believe it or not. I know how this "season" of stories ends. There's actually a point where most of the stories will conclude, and then I'll move on to a new set of stories. There actually is one storyline you've seen hints of already and probably don't even know it's a storyline; it will become one of the major plots in the second season of the comic. My goal is that when you look back a year from now, you'll see all these hints that have been there all along.

"Shootin' the Solar Breeze"

I was bummed that it wasn't clear to everyone that Schwartz was barfing, so much that I had to have him explicitly reference it in a later comic.

"Last Knight"

I don't think I made this story amusing enough and Valkyrie might have come across as too bitchy. But it was important to show the conflict between Blacktron I and II.

"Prototypical"

My plans for Star Justice my be complicated by the upcoming Space Police III. I know I'll want to use Space Police III, but I'm not sure how to use it. The aliens its seems to have won't fit into the current storyline, where Earth doesn't know of any other aliens besides the Martian races. And I haven't used Space Police I & II anywhere near enough. So, maybe I'll have to do stand-alone future story with SP3.

Indiana Schwartz:

It's weird to me to think as Highander as being cliche, since my friends and I were big-time into it during high school in the 1990s when it was very much a cult hit. But "There can be only one" has seeped into the public consciousness of late. I likely will do other stories related to current events. "House Call" lightly touched on the U.S. presidential race and the whole premise was very "A Christmas Carol," even if I uploaded it about a month before Christmas. I hope some of you appreciated my fawning over Indy and Harrison Ford, lol.

Blank Attack:

No, I still do not own the Mega-Core Magnetizer. :pir-cry_sad: I really want to, as it's the closest thing M:Tron has to a base. But I imagine I could use my cousin's again in the meantime if I need it. The dragons speaking like Shakespeare characters was, I believe, my cousin's idea and a great one. I'm always afraid to mention Xenu again lest I incur the wrath of Scientologists. Coldwell is basically what a Satan-worshipper is to a Christian. He's not a bad guy, just... odd.

Last Face You See:

I think that freaked out a lot of people. It had the opposite effect on me. For about a year or two before I created that story, I had been dealing with near-constant feelings of despair. Death ans loss were always on my mind, ever since I neared 30. As silly as it sounds, creating those two comics was a major catharsis and I've felt a lot better ever since. While I still deal with a lot of those dark thoughts, they're not nearly as overpowering as they were before.

Revenge is a Dish Best Served with Champagne:

Oh my goodness. Despite initial thoughts that this might not be a fitting punishment I was so proved wrong. The ending was the icing on the cake though, with him liking it. you really need to follow up on that poor brainwashing of Shwartz

This is one of my favorite storylines; I felt it worked really well in that it was funny and reached the level of odd absurdity for which I strive. I should do a story called "How Schwartz Got His Rock Back."

Anyway, I'm glad these comics have been son enojyable for you. Thank you for all your comments and dedication!

I think the Gods of Rock was one of the funniest, it's always interesting to see what music people like and all the minifig representations of the greats were well chosen.

Thank you. I worked hard on putting together rock star minifigs that looked acceptable. I could have done better with Springsteen, I think. But not sure how.

That's okay man, I had a great time reading them over again, I noticed a heap of small things which I'll post soon.

Neat! Did you manage to get the DACTA base together yet? Good to hear you atleast put the news van together, I was wondering about that.

I haven't noticed the colour thing actually. I'm glad you are tying them all in, in some way. I know you love Lost but I find that doing so puts a one up on that show, as I didn't like how each character tied in to separate things overlapping constantly till my head exploded.

Yay! I think you're doing a good job of not making her "soft" as you put it, but I see how that would be a hard thing to achieve, just go at your own pace though mate and only write the stories you want to write, it's worked out so far especially since my theories on what would happen were a load of rubbish

My goal is that when you look back a year from now, you'll see all these hints that have been there all along.

That's a great format to use, especially with things all tying together for a finale. I know this sounds obscure, but my favourite Batman runs (when a writer goes for like 8 or more issues in a row) are the ones when seemingly unrelated incidences all tie together at the end. Also like Cowboy Bebop (not sure if you've seen it) where the threads come together at the end when the main character's past and present meet. sorry for the rant, but I just really love this storytelling style.

I was bummed that it wasn't clear to everyone that Schwartz was barfing, so much that I had to have him explicitly reference it in a later comic.

Actually I noticed it right away, I immediately thought everyone would. My "even with the vomiting" was just my sly little joke about it being gross.

You could do that, though mind you I reckon you could find someway to fit them in. In any case, since you haven't used Space Police much at all I'm sure the police side of SPIII could fit in, even as the latest models or experimental craft.

That's good mate, not the bit about having those feelings, but I know from personal experience that writing about your dark thoughts can really help you conquer them, and that it does feel awful having them, especially when you're not having the best of days.

This is one of my favorite storylines; I felt it worked really well in that it was funny and reached the level of odd absurdity for which I strive. I should do a story called "How Schwartz Got His Rock Back."

YES! YES! YES! I'd love to see that, so many great riffs could be made. I also like to think that was Verwaand stuck in the isolation chamber where Shwartz was going to be put before he announced he loved it.

Anyway, I'm glad these comics have been son enojyable for you. Thank you for all your comments and dedication!

That's fine KDog, I've had a terrific time reading them. Like so many other well crafted comics or shows I've really invested in the characters and care about what happens to them, which is a mark of great writing. Strange as it seems this comic has actually been a sort of anti-depressant to me on bad days, I'd come home and read one and feel a lot better, it certainly is something that I can just have a great time reading no matter what else goes on in my life. Thanks again!

-Oh, and I'll post my favourite one shots soon :classic:

Batbrick is a little Space Crazy right now! :alien:

Okay, sorry for the double post, but I'm finishing this once and for all!

Favourite one shots:

Stuck on Mars: I think the paranoid astronaut and robot are some of the most underused characters, they are so funny. This also marks the first appearance of Shwartz.

Breaking Down the Fourth Wall:

Love anything to do with fourth wall breaks, so this was a treat, ironically the speech bubbles were used soon after this.

Preview:

I love mysterious teasers, and this is no exception. It also freaked me out a little, so that's good.

First Field Assignment:

The Gemini Twins being the Gemini Twins, seeing them get drunk and in drag was ridiculously hilarious.

100th:

All round hilarity, I hope you come up with a good idea for the 200th one as well!

Breaking News:

Again, fourth wall breaks are a treat, you need a character who routinely breaks the fourth wall.

The Savage Element:

This appealed to my cynical nature as well as my continuity geekness.

There we go! Done! Sorry it took so long
