Hello, I was browsing through LEGO castle sets and I find something quite odd. In the first Castle chess set (the small one) the 'Skeleton Queen' is some kind of female skeleton wearing a battlerobe, whereas in the newer one (The big one) the 'queen' is a Witch.

So what I'm confused about is are either of them 'canon' or were they just there for a Queen figure? (I suspect the Witch wasn't though she is in the Castle Advent Calender)

So if anyone knows, help?

My take on this is that the minifigs are made to create inspiration, not to set things to stone - that's exactly why they are made from interchangeable pieces. So I don't really believe there's one official "companion" for the evil wizard, it's up to each individual to decide.

So talking about official "canon" with LEGO is a bit absurd.

The closest to canon would be if there was a comic drawn for either set. Lacking that, you could check the official site and see if they give character profiles that indicate anything, but I doubt it. I personally despise it when a theme includes a pre-set story, so I would avoid anything of the sort.

Yes it is, and now I'll give the correct answer...

The skeleton queen is the wizard's first wife. When she died, he brought her back using his evil magic and she ruled as his queen. Only problem is, he eventually wanted a wife with, well, a little more skin on her bones, and he 'accidentally' undid that spell. His second wife, however, turned out to be a real witch... He just can't catch a break.

Unlike themes like Star Wars that are licensed, themes created by Lego don't really have their own "canon" per-say. Sure, they have a loose story-line, but they can really do whatever they want without hurting a story that is set in stone.

These have story lines, but my point was Lego can create whatever characters and sets they want, unlike with Star Wars where they have follow what Lucas wants.

Id say they just use the witch for variation. After all,I think both fit,but...well I think they added different for creative varaiation. After all, lego castle have no story,YOU make the story.
