Da Death Star! Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 With the third movie coming to theatres sometime in 2010,I think it would be a good idea for Lego to add Toy Story to thier licensed themes(I even still watch the first two from time to time ),its younger than Indy(I think)and it would be a great oppurtunity to get some more fans into Lego. So,as the subtitle says: What say you? Oky Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Heck yeah! PIXAR is my idol and I would love a PIXAR (or even general Disney) theme! Their works are the best and most popular movies of our time, so it would really make sense for TLC to make a license with them! Plus: Toy Story is one of my favorites and I could very well imagine Woody and Buzz figs being made! However, it would be hard to make figs of all the other characters since they are all anthropomorphic. I mean, how do you make a Slinky or Mr. Potato Head fig? That would require a whole bunch of new molds and I don't think TLC would like that. Also, what kind of sets would you make for a Toy Story theme? All the locations and objects are way bigger than the main characters, so we would be looking at some very large and expensive sets! For example, if there was to be a Dinoco Gas Station set, I would think it would come with Woody and Buzz minifigs, a giant Pizza Planet delivery truck in the style of 4404, and maybe some XL gas station accessories. Who would buy sets like that, except for hardcore PIXAR fans? In conclusion, I would love a Toy Story/PIXAR/Disney license/theme, but I guess its highly unlikely that there will ever be one. Quote
Pickerel Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Although it would be nice, I think the figures are much too irregularly shaped to make a good line without turning them into blobby, head-piece overhanging, action-figures, which LEGO is NOT. I'd like Toy Story and LEGO to be seperate. As cool as the Spongebob figure is, I don't think LEGO should get used to making set lines of too many animated movies/shows. (I could be wrong, but I don't think this belongs here because Toy Story is not a theme yet...) Quote
Da Death Star! Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 Hm,Mr.Potato head could be brick-built(using an astromech body for the base).Though you have a good point about the size of the sets. But Lego IS known for not making things correctly scaled to the movie/TV show :pir-skull: .(SW is a good example ) Quote
Bundalings Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Toys of toys? I don't think so. Let the younger kids play with Spongebob and Star Wars. ~Bunda Quote
Tinn-man Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 You know, this might actually be a good idea. It would be hard to pull off, as there would be a huge size gap between the toys themselves and humans and/or other objects. Of course, something will have to replace the star wars line in 2011, although I heard that was Code Lyoko . Quote

I love Toy Story! WHen I was a wee kiddie, I apparently watched the original movie all the time! I still have the Sheriff Woody doll I got for a present one year! Disney has a ton of great lisences that would result in (potentially) great sets! Mary Poppins, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Song of the South (if they'd release the damn thing in America...), and a ton of other things! All the Disney movies have good sets & costumes (at least in the 40s-50s-60s-70s. Not so much anymore, as Disney seems to be making some bad business decisions lately. I'd love to see a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride set! Quote
Tinn-man Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 CODE LYOKO? No-one has ever even heard of that two-bit immatation-CG-anime TV show! Sorry, it was supposed to be a joke. I was referencing when the crazy guy got on the star wars board yesterday and was saying that Code Lyoko was going to replace the star wars theme. Quote
Wrinkledlion X Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 20,000 Leagues would be incredible. Quote
Norrington Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 20,000 Leagues would be incredible. I agree. I've been lobbying for this for some time. I've mentioned it in a ton of threads, and it would be great. At least some sort of steampunk, LEGO! I mean, even actual Victorian machinery would work! Here's a Bessemer Steel Converter: Does that not look like some steampunk walking device? Now is that far off from this (except for the draperies and comfy-looking couches)?: Plus, we could finally get steamships! The U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln: Some Nitrate ship (actually a painting super-imposed over the footage): Here's, of course, Harper Goff's famous rendition of the Nautilus: I wouldn't care if the Nautilus was a three peice hull (bottom hull, top hull, and wheel house so there could be interiors) as long as there was a nautilus! Sorry to get off topic, it's just something that LEGO could make money off of and give a chance for Disney to restore and theatircally re-release a classic. And in closing, here's a picture of the Nautilus' Atomic Counter (the moving thing hits the two ice-cream cone thingys faster as the sub speeds up:) Quote
Wrinkledlion X Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Yeah. And a set of Volcania would be pretty cool as well. Now that I think of it, have they ever released a set featuring an atoll like that? In a pirates set, maybe? Hmmm... A few sets for The Mysterious Island could be cool as well... Quote
Pencoin Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 A disney film that would work as LEGO bricks? TRON. Quote
Dadster Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Technic parts could make for a really, really cool RC, (especially with the Power Miner Day-Glo parts coming shortly...) but I can't imagine much else. Quote

Shoc Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I really don't think Lego toys of other toys would work at all. :skull: Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I think the makers of Mr Potato Head would have a real problem with LEGO making a toy of their toy - I'm sure they'd rather people were buying real Mr Potato Heads than a LEGO facsimile. In fact, the whole concept of LEGO making models of other toys - which could in many cases be seen as rivals to the LEGO product itself, makes my head want to explode in confusion - I think the market might get confused as well. CaptainBrickBeard Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Well, MEGABLOCKS is currently producing toys for Disney/Pixar's Cars, along with a line of Mickey Mouse (and friends) building sets. LEGO used to produce a couple of sets for Disney a while ago. My guess is that Disney's licensing fees are astronomical. Quote

Dr. S. Me too... That's why I think a Leagues line would be great. Tons of things to build, new building techniques, new peices, etc. Besides, there haven't been real Leagues toys (unless you count the numerous model Nautili (sp.?) avalible for purchase) since the 1950's when Walt started marketing it really vicourously. Besides, look at my sig: that Nautilus is just too kick megablocks not to do a decent Lego model off. Edited November 17, 2008 by Norrington Quote

I was thinking about what you said as I was coming home from TRU after buying some SW Action Figures, and I realized that;Wouldn't it be the same with SW and all the other Licensed themes?I'm sure that Hasbro would rather have people buying SW and Indy Action Figures instead of the Lego sets.So while you have a good point,I think that the same goes for all the othe Licensed themes(That ALREADY exist.). -The guy whos name abbreviation sounds uncomfortably like a DSS- Quote
Oky Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 (edited) That Nautilus is just too kick megablocks not to do a decent Lego model off. While I'm starting to get a little annoyed by all your 20k Leagues talk, I do agree that it would be neat to get a Nautilus, perhaps a S@H exclusive that looks somewhat like this. A whole line of Jule Verne Vehicles would be neat! I was thinking about what you said as I was coming home from TRU after buying some SW Action Figures, and I realized that;Wouldn't it be the same with SW and all the other Licensed themes?I'm sure that Hasbro would rather have people buying SW and Indy Action Figures instead of the Lego sets. Well, this is kind of different. The point here is that Mr. Potato Head is originally a toy on its own and nothing from a movie or anything. So, Playskool would have good reason to be pissed off about the fact that a different brand is producing a toy based on their toy. -The guy whose name abbreviation sounds uncomfortably like a DSS- ... or whose name abbreviation sounds pleasantly like DDR! (by which I mean Dance Dance Revolution of course, not Deutsch Demokratische Republik. ) Anyway, back on topic: If there was a line of Lego PIXAR sets, I would love it if there were models like this and/or this! Very true! It would have been awesome if they would have gone through the Lego aisle in Al's Toy Barn and saw the minifigs partying like the Barbies! But perhaps there is still a chance that Lego appears in 3! Let's hope! Quote
