Hi, I were involved in a discussion about which is my favorite Star Wars movie so I think in doing a topic here after this discussion. The title of the topic says everything so I will post my answer.

My favorite SW movie is "The Return of the Jedi". I really like the movie and all the battles in this one are my favorites in the whole saga (The Battle of Endor (ground) is my favorite in the ground category and the space one is my favorite in the space category too). It has a good plot and the vehicles used are simply fantastic. Also one of the most memorable phrases in the saga is involved. Yes, I am talking about the "It

I know a lot of people young enough to be kids for the original Star Wars movies are blinded by nostalgia and think episodes 4-6 are unquestionably great and episodes 1-3 a pile of Bantha Poodo, (and I my self initially reacted negatively to phantom menace - medichloriwhats? Jar-Jar stinks! and all that), but I think that, for the best balance of action and exposition, and for the sheer joy of seeing Yoda involved in some lightsaber action for the first time, my favorite has to be Attack of the Clones. :yoda:

On their own every movie is basically flawed in some way, some of them seriously, and I find I have have to tolerate sequences and characters I don't really like for the parts I do, (try and beat me to death if you want but its true  ), I nearly fall asleep in the rather dull middle section of The Empire Strikes back, or simply skip past it for example. The real joy of the Star Wars saga is the cumulative effect of the movies as they are watched in sequence and watching from 1-6 is definately more satisfying that watching 4-6. Watch them all in sequence and there is a good chance you will be left with the feeling that Return of the Jedi is the best simply because you carry with you all the good bits of the other movies as you watch it. But as a stand alone movie I have no major issues with Attack of the Clones as I have with the others, and I can enjoy the whole experience from start to finish equally.

Well, I think all the SW movies are awesome (I actually really enjoyed TCW even if all the movie sites said it is just trash) and I really like the PT too but as a stand alone movie I think the ROTJ carries the best action and plot  .

You can hate me for it, but my favorite is Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith! I am a big fan of animation, and seeing a SW movie that consists to 90% of top-notch animation was a dream to me! :cry_happy: I think that SW was made for animation, and apparently, George seems to think so too.

Besides, it features Obi Wan in his best years, General Grievous (one of my favorite SW characters), Mace Windu (the most badass Jedi  ) and many other Jedi (even though they are only shown in their death scenes  ), and Phase 2 clones (my favorite kind of clone). Also, this film shows most of the CW, my favorite era of the SW universe.

You are a Knight, so why don't you make a poll out of this, darkrebellion?

I've said it once, I'll say it again as often as I need to: The best Star Wars film is Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

Why do I say this? First off, we see the Empire behaving as it would when faced with a rebellion, using every resource to wipe them out, including capturing leaders, making illicit deals, and overwhelming force to eliminate the threat.

Secondly the film doesn't use visual effects as a crutch. It is a lot like a staged play: there is only so much scenery you can have, the imagination fills in the rest. To me the flashy effects distract and detract from the story line as I gt absorbed in effects rather than the story.

Third, the lightsaber fight sequence on Cloud City is, in my opinion, the most iconic. We see How strong Vader is for the first time, both with the force and his lightsaber prowess. We also get the atmosphere, when Luke and Vader begin fighting there is the steam all around. Then, at the end of the sequence, we learn the secret past of Darth Vader. Luke has a choice: go with his evil father or fall, perhaps to his death. There is so much character development at this moment. It is such a deep film in that regard.

On a side note: You know that a Jedi is never supposed to be aggresive, right? They are supposed to be defensive at all times and avoid conflict unless the fight MUST happen. But, when you watch the saga take a look at who usually ignites their saber first. I'll give you a clue: It's not the badguys, this is as true in Episode I as it is in Episode VI. Think about it next time you watch a Star Wars film. Makes you think.

I enjoyed the Prequel Trilogy for the amount of action and large battle. Saying that, the Original Trilogy is the best, and will be the best, forever. I love all of them equally.

Hmm... tough decision. I would have to say The Phantom Menace, since it was the first one I saw. I also like how Lucas dared to stray away from the traditional style of the OT, and put together a great movie. It had a good plot, and it wasn't all action like ATOC and ROTS. I remember always reenacting the last scenes (reataking Theed palace and Darth Maul duel) as a kid. :cry_happy: Plus, Darth Maul is my favorite Sith from the movies (Darth Nihilus being my favorite in EU). Oh, and please save your rants about Jar Jar, I really don't care how much you hate him.

I also liked TESB very much. ROTS was good, but it wasn't put together very well. I mean, fist there's the battle over Coruscant (which was cool), but then there is such a llloooonnnngg boring part (Oh, Anakin... :hmpf:). And then, the rest of the movie is action (but good action, albeit), and then the conclusion that ties up the PT and OT. I always thought that the Order 66 scenes were so sad... :cry_sad:

EDIT: Yes, please make a poll, DR.

Oh? So, you had the pleasure of watching the saga in the right order, eh? :sweet:

I wasn't so lucky. :sadnew: The first film I saw was Episode VI: RotJ. It had just come into theaters and my dad reckoned I might like it, so he took me there. Let me tell you, it's not the best place to get into the saga. :sceptic: I didn't have a clue what was going on! But I enjoyed it nevertheless, so my parents rented the other OT films for me. And so, after seeing Ep. IV & V, I watched RotJ again and finally understood it. That's when I started to become a SW fan. :cry_happy: Then Episode 1 came into theaters and I must say I enjoyed it just as much as you, Jim. Podracing is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, Darth Maul is the shit, and back then, I thought Jar Jar is actually kinda likable. Now, after watching the movie over and over, I must admit that he is getting a bit annoying, though.

Podracing ON!

I also really like the podracing :sweet: , it is just like the NASCAR or F1 races but more aggressive and well with way cooler vehicles  . To answer your first post questions Oky Wan Kenobi I want to add a poll but I don´t know how  and I gladly will copy your quote thanks for the chance :sweet: .

Go and edit the first post. There, between the Title "Editing a post in Which is your favorite Star Wars movie?" and the text box it should say "Poll Options". Click there, and you should know what to do from there.

Can you edit the poll as in allow us to vote for more than one movie? Some of us are fans of a few of them.

He can, but I don't think that's what darkrebellion wants, though. He wants to know which one you like specifically! So, choose.

Thanks for clarifying that :classic:

Well, I voted for the clone wars as in the newest movie. Simply because I am mostly a phase 1 clone fan. :sweet: It is also a great introduction to the series and I think Lucas and warnerBors have done a fantastic job!

My favorite movie would have to be Episode V ESB because it was the first star wars movie I watched about 15 years ago. I also liked the Battle of Hoth at the beginning and the Cloud City part with Lando.

I rank them thusly...

  1. Ep V; ESB
  2. Ep VI; ROTJ
The gap between 2 and 3 is VAST...
  3. Ep III; ROTS
  4. Ep II; ATOTC
  5. Ep IV; ANH
  6. Ep I; TPM

I would rank the 1st Clone Wars (cell animation) series between ROTJ and ROTS..... I'll wait to pass judgement on the new CW series but as for right now it it's there too.

I am surprised that you didn't enjoy ANH very much. To me, all three of the OT are tied. Of the prequel, they are all equal as well.

The Empire Strikes Back for me. I think this is actually the best as a film (that sounds odd I know) but from the point of film making it has a much better script than most of them and in my opinion the direction is much much better we seem to get alot more from the actors in Empire than the others.

Also it’s a darker film (I know that ROTS is but as I saw the originally in the wrong order it doesn’t work as well to me) normally the best of a trilogy is in the middle as that the one where you have the darkness and the drama and there are moment in empire you ponder if the cause of good could fail. And finally we get the AT-AT!

As I've gotten older I've gotten increasingly hardened to Hamil's whiny-megablocks in ANH. I tend to think of it as one big story and rank then films based on big events or what have you.

  1. Ep V; ESB ~ EVERYTHING happens in this movie. It;s all GOOD
  2. Ep VI; ROTJ ~ Luke/Vader Duel, Fall of Palpatine.
The gap between 2 and 3 is VAST...
  3. Ep III; ROTS ~ Tons of Jedi, The Final Duel
  4. Ep II; ATOTC ~ Yoda/Dooku, Geonosis
  5. Ep IV; ANH ~ The end, Battle in/escape from The Death Star
  6. Ep I; TPM ~ Not even the Duel of the Fates saves this turd from being LAST....

ESB is my favorite movie of all SW movies. Pure excellence!! An amazing sequel and part of the "old" trilogy.

+ Yoda,

+ Han Solo and Lando Calrissian,

+ duel between Darth Vader and Luke,

+ Boba Fett.

All three of the OT are pretty much tied in my book. My next favorite is ROTS, and then TPM and ATOC. ROTS was the best of the PT and have large battles and a decent story. It wrapped everything up for us. I actually like TPM. The story was decent and the Lightsaber duel as well as the Battle of Theed was good. Jar-Jar was of course annoying. While AOTC had a great final battle, the rest of it was weak dialogue and bad acting. Hayden Christensen was a horrible choice for Anakin.

Wow, for the first time in my life, my movie taste coincides with the most popular. It was The Empire Strikes Back, all the way for me. From first seeing a snowtrooper I was hooked, it was like "it's a stormtrooper but even better" for the ten year old version of me. And who could resist this movie with a title that gave you hope that whiney Luke might get his come-uppance.

I'm stuck between ROTS and ANH. ROTS had the awesome Order 66 but ANH had my favourite Star Wars vehicle (Sandcrawler) plus Jawas. Oh yes, and a cracked apart Sandcrawler annd dead Jawas (Opposites  )

While I love all of the films, I gotta go with the original Star Wars. (A New Hope, for all you crazy kids who didn't know it was once just called Star Wars). The original just has a special place in my heart. Probaly because it was the first movie I've ever seen.
