Hi EBers,

I was just sitting down at the start of a large build (10184) and was wondering what type of builders you all are?

I think I am mostly a little picture builder, preferring not to get too far ahead on a build, instead focusing on page by page details. I certainly noticed this whilst building the Death star, it was far too overwhelming to day dream why every little brick had been placed where it was and what purpose it would serve down the line.

When it comes to MOCs however, I generally get a large overall picture in my head and map out how im going to achieve the overall plan.

Cheers

Definitly little picture person. When building sets I do my best to stay foucsed to the task at hand, that doesn't mean I don't look froward to sections of the build though. However when I do MOCs im pretty weird, I usually have a somewhat idea of what I want to do, shape, size, color whatever but no real details plotted out. So I am definitly a little picture person there to, just planning as I go.

When building a set, I just do the step-by-step instructions, so little picture I guess for that. When MOCing, I map out the overall scheme in my head (sometimes I draw it out on paper), and then start the basic structures. After I have all of that done, I add on little by little whenever I think of something, so both little and big picture on that. Good topic idea, by the way.

I'm a big picture person. The only catch is that I don't know how I'm going to get to the end result.

In other words; I know what I want to do, but I don't plan it out in exacting detail. The basics of my designs are usually set quite early (angles, scale etc.), but the finer details only develop as I start to build. I certainly don't go to alot of effort drawing out plans for my designs or any other such nonsense. I simply get an idea and roll with it.

With MOCs, I seem to be a little picture person...I'll just kinda build what I feel like with no real focus, although I try to keep in mind at least what I'm trying to build in general (like a castle or a mountain or whatever). Then, I might think "It should have this" and try to build it.

I guess I'm a big picture person with both sets and MOCs. I often look a few pages ahead when building sets, especially with Technic models where knowing what a specific gear mechanism is going to be used for lets you make sure that the whole thing will operate smoothly.

I don't plan things out with MOCs and think of the details as I go along, but I have a rough idea of the model and its main features in mind before I start. For large MOCs, I sometimes make a very generic MLCad model of the basic frame and shape, just to get the dimensions right before I build.
