The Legonater Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Was just coming to post that. It so depressingly stupid of Disney to do that. Quote
Flipz Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Well this confirms the only games Disney want to make are crap mobile games, probably with a billion in game transactions. I was still hoping for a battlefront 3. Even if it actually happens, you'll probably have to pay a quarter every time you reload your gun. Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Lucasarts were the masters of making point and click games, why on Earth are disney getting rid of them when point and click poke games are making a comeback on mobile devices. The walking dead is an example of this. Lucasarts could of released anther Grim Fandango and it could make a fortune. It seems disney are more interested with the free games filled with micro transactions. DIsney could at least let them finnish their current projects, Star wars 1313 was looking good. They could even just make HD remakes of some of their old games which is a popular thing right now. Lucasarts may not of been in the best states but it most certainly had the chance to succeed. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 On one hand, the footage we've seen of Battlefront III looked pretty awesome. On the other hand, Lucasfilm seemed all over the place in the last few years, doing TCW, then starting the other TV series, then stopping the other TV series, then doing the OR game, then failing at making money with the OR game, then announcing a couple video games and not seeming to make much progress, then doing something regarding another TV series... and supposedly doing Indy 5 the whole time... I admit that I don't really keep up with what Lucasarts does, but all this canceling seems like a regroup and focus effort, and I'm not sure that that's an entirely bad idea. Yes, I know that Lucasarts makes some really good games, and I want Battlefront III as much as everyone else. But maybe with some more focus on one thing (Episode VII), instead of getting a bunch of releases all over the timeline, we can get a single effort in the form of a multimedia project. Those have usually been pretty successful. (including Shadows of the Empire, Republic Commando, The Force Unleashed) This isn't exactly exciting news, and I must say that while I like the regroup and focus, I'm not a fan of completely shutting down Lucasarts, but I'm still in the "Disney can't do any worse than Lucas already was" camp. And the fact that I'm an OT fan is probably a factor in that, too. Quote
Mraz Skintas Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 The cancelling a few projects I'm okay with, it makes sense, because as Brickdoctor said, they seemed to be all over the place with their development. But as far as canning the entire studio and laying everyone off, that was another dumb move on Disney. I enjoyed TOR for a little while, but failure to have any major updates made it kinda boring after the first couple of playthroughs, so that being said, TFU was the last Star Wars game I really thoroughly enjoyed all the way through, because it had some great DLCs. TFU2 wasn't bad, but I wasn't as great as the first one. I think had LucasArts chosen to contact a different partner for Battlefront 3, that was still up and running and making good shooters, that would have been a giant step in the right directions, and probably raised the chances to keep their studio open. Well, you look a bit small for a stormtrooper Seriously, the whole thing looks pretty awesome, including the blaster How did you make it? And in the shopping mall, did you ever think of asking people if they have droids in their baskets? Quote

I don't actually make the moulded parts, you buy the plastic kits in rough forms and form There you have to trim them out and put them together, it's like a life size model kit and I haven't thought of that yet! Will try it out:D Quote

And also I think the gloves are a little short (for a Stormtrooper ) you can see you're wrist through them, the 501st are a little strict about things like that. Quote

Yes I know about that, the gloves are long enough I Just forgot to tuck one in But I soon just hope to get screen accurate rubber gloves with rubber hand gaurds. I hope one day to become the highest level of stormtrooper for 501st, Centurion Quote
Oky Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 It seems the premise and some character descriptions for the new animated series were leaked on IMDB. It's called Star Wars: Reclamation and gives us an idea of what the new show and Episode VII will be about. The story takes place fifteen years after Return of the Jedi and is "designed to introduce the audience to themes and characters pivotal to Episode VII and beyond." It's targeted at kids like The Clone Wars, but will feature characters from the OT such as Leia along with new characters. You can read the leaked pages here. The story sounds like a mixture of the cancelled Star Wars 1313, Star Wars Underworld, and some EU material. Interesting new characters include Sky Bonteri, a possible indication that Ahsoka went off to marry Lux Bonteri, and Kala Calrissian, who is likely a so far unknown offspring of Lando. So what do you think? I for one find the premise interesting enough, and the characters sound pretty cool, so even though I'm not too excited about it being another kid-oriented show, I'm curious to see how this turns out. Leo604 Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I'm almost definitely certain this is going to appease all the disappointed Clone Wars fans but business-wise it'll probably help Disney get more people to think about seeing 7. Ill probably watch a few episodes or at least read up on the synopses. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 FYI: the "leaked" Reclamation show outline was debunked by Lucasfilm last week - http://theforce.net/latestnews/story/LFL_Star_Wars_Reclamation_TV_Show_Isnt_Real_151134.asp Quote

BrickG Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Well everything is pointing to Disney screwing up Star Wars. I'll still wait to make my final judgement until they actually release something though. This game stuff... EA really, really sucks. I mean they're terrible. They ruin EVERY good company they buy out. Just look at Bioware and Mass Effect. They bought Bioware and changed ME3's story and ending to crap. All the good employees left (key writers!). And now we're going to get microtransaction heavy games. Want them game? $60. Want this extra level at release? $10 DLC! Their games are so ridiculously DRM'd and microtransactioned I can't play them anymore. So they can't make amazing games and they're going to charge out the butt for them... Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I think the games themselves will be good but they will be ruined by an awful business model. I wonder what this means for Lego Star wars 4, it may have to be published by EA whom I do not want to give my money. Quote
Flipz Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Welp, Star Wars is dead to me. It died in whatever year the last Karen Traviss book came out, and nothing that supposedly came out since then actually exists. And no, my willful denial will not prevent me from buying LEGO Star Wars sets...but I may be buying them from Bricklink instead of from stores. Quote
CMP Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 They supposedly put DICE and Visceral in charge of the Star Wars game(s), which, well....DICE has Battlefield while Visceral's got Dead Space, so at least they put good developers at the helm of the franchise. Is it too much to hope Battlefront 3's spirit will live on in whatever they end up making? Quote
The Legonater Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I don't see what's so bad about this. DICE, BioWare and Visceral have all put out great games before. Besides, better this than no SW games at all. Quote

Is it too much to hope Battlefront 3's spirit will live on in whatever they end up making? Perhaps if they make a Battlefield: Star Wars Edition... Seriously though, if there was any hope of a Battlefront 3 before (which I don't think there was) there sure isn't any now. These new games will probably be based on the new movies, like pretty much everything else is. If we're lucky, we might get a game that's similar to it some day, but it wont really have anything to do with Battlefront. Quote

There would be other companies that would make Star wars games, Bethesda would of been great. Quote

I already gave up on getting the official Battlefront 3. A Battlefield-esque large-scale shooter game is what I'm hoping for. Quote
Faefrost Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Wasn't Battlefront basically one of the regular WW2 combat games that they flipped over into the SW universe to great success? I can't see Battlefront 3 being built on Battlefield 4's engine as a bad thing? I think the team that gave us Dead Space could probably do justice to a Dark Forces / Jedi Knight / Force Unleashed type game. And I have no complaints if Bioware does another KotoR. Lets not be fooling ourselves. Lucasarts produced some of the best games ever, over a decade ago. But they have been deep in the Bantha Poodoo in recent years. And I can see why Disney didn't want the games unit in house. Their own in house video game division bled out $50 million last year, and that was a good or vastly improved year! The year before they lost $70 million. So I can see where contracting it out to one of the big players would look to be the best approach. That pretty much means EA, Activision, Ubisoft or Square Enix. Square is weird, broke, and problematic these days. Most if heir dealings with Ubisoft have been with Disney themed kids games (see $70 million loss), Disney has a current direct rivalry and competition with Activision (Skylanders vs Disney Infinite) and few direct business dealings, and they already have pre existing deals with EA regarding SW subjects. You can kinda see how or why they went with EA. Quote
CMP Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 You can kinda see how or why they went with EA. Exactly. DICE and Visceral is probably the best we could've asked for out of EA to handle it. Quote
