Derek Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) Does anyone have any idea why people go on Brickshelf and put folders up of a couple of official TLC pictures, even when they are in dozens, upon dozens, of other folders containing identical pictures? The large folders of all the accumulated pictures in a given year are helpful, but these I think take up space that could be used for legit MOCs. Sorry if I'm missing something... darthperson Edited October 29, 2008 by darthperson Quote

The large folders of all the accumulated pictures in a given year are helpful, but these I think take up space that could be used for legit MOCs.Sorry if I'm missing something... If I want to post a picture somewhere, I want it in a folder I control, not linked to someone else. I assume others are the same. The important question here is ... why do you care? I mean, it isn't as if legit MOCs aren't capable of being posted because Brickshelf is out of space, so what does it matter? If they ever have an issue with space, I'm sure they'll say something, but I'd expect them to crack down on useless 3000x2000 .bmps first. Quote
Athos Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Maybe someone could create an index of the most pointless brickshelf folders? Steve Quote

Its not that big of a deal, it just gets kind of annoying when you look for things that are actually MOC's or new pics. Quote

Captain Zuloo Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Until Brickself is overloaded with uploads it has no need of elimiating "pointless" folders. And there is such a high chance of that happpening... But I agree it is annoying. Although if you are a webmaster of a site, you would want to insert your image into a folder you know won't be deleted yes? Quote
Brickthing Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Although it isn't currently a problem space wise, it is very annoying when I search for photos of a set but all I get is folder after folder of the same official photo, and the different set photos are pushed back to the third page. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 If you need to look for images of sets, I would use Peeron rather than Brickshelf. Take a look. Quote
blueandwhite Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Honestly, I don't have an issue with it. I mean, how does one qualify what folders are "worthless" anyhow? Given the huge number of folders, it would be an incredibly difficult task to edit the so-called good from the bad. With 256,000+ folders how would anybody begin to edit any of it? At the end of the day, I'm just thankful that Brickshelf still is up and running. Quote
WhiteFang Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 At the end of the day, I'm just thankful that Brickshelf still is up and running. I share your sentiments too. We ought to be grateful that Brickshelf is there for us to use. For their site policy, its up to them to define what is useful or not. It's not right to judge others' folders in terms of whether is it useful or not. Anyway, its up to yourself whether you want to be responsible or not, by helping Brickshelf. Quote
