Hello,

For almost 3 1/2 years I've been going through the many forums of eurobricks, seeing whats new, what amazing new MOC someone has built, some of the games and groups that have been made, and looking at anything interesting in the Lego world. Now, for a research study on a culture, I've decided to do one on eurobricks. This all sounds so un-fun, but I thought the best way to start was to use what this place was made for, get everyone to talk, and see what I as well as the community can learn from each other. It would be helpful too if you would like to post some good places to look for information and study on this site, whether it be forums here or somewhere else on the web. Any indexes, interviews, or really cool places. I will try to search around myself, but this site is quite big and I am not that skilled at finding stuff.

A basic demographic would be nice to set up, to see where people are from, how old is everyone here, male and female, single or married, family?, jobs, and so on. Just to get to know each other a little bit. This is an ongoing research, so I'll be studying behavior, psychology, rituals, language, and whatnot; coming in periodically to update and add more questions and go further in to the community. If there is anything you do not want shared just don't post it.

Names would be nice  , but its up to you. Anything you want to say about yourself, why you became a Lego fan, why you joined the eurobricks community, what you do here, what you think about this site, and how much time you spend for the site you can write.

Thank you for helping me out

By the way, does this fit here or in the "website and forums" section?

Oh, and it would be really cool to get a lot of the moderators and leaders of anything to join in, you guys know this place the best.

Finally, if anyone wants, it would be helpful to get a wiki type detail of what this site really is, all the things that are in it, whats going on, how everything works, and the interesting facts and facets of this site.

ahah Adam^^

Alienwar 9 , if you want cool indexes, just look on the "important topic" on each section , there is always an index there. (example : in the Star wars section , you look on the top of the list, you'll find a topic called : " Pinned: Star Wars Diorama, MOC and MOD index " )

so you want some informations about people? do you want me to send it to you by PM ? or to write it here ? I have no secret ^^ well.. maybe one or two secrets.. but the last one who tried to know died an horrible wayyy MWAHAHAHAHA :skull: . hum sorry ^^

just ask me what do you want to know, I'll answer the best I can ^^

I was going to say what CopMike said, the interview index. You could also check out the Community index, which has a few links to topics such as "What is you Dream ride?" or "How did you get your title?'.

As for me, I'd rather not share any information about me beyond what's on my profile and what I've already posted here. But looking at people's profiles might get you some info, as long as you don't completely stalk people.

I have no problem answering questions or sharing info. If you come up with a questionaire or anything you want filled out, feel free to send it my way!

I've always wondered what percentage of Eurobricks members are in Europe and how many are in North America and the rest of the world.

OK, so I didn't think about this :hmpf_bad: but yeah, I guess PMing would be a good way too. I have some of the questions up there in my first post, so feel free to pm me.

I was thinking about looking at profiles, but I kind of feel like that stuff is for site users and would be too private for me to use in the research.

Thanks for the links to the interviews and other places to look at. Very helpful, though those are a lot of interviews (hope I have enough time. I am on a deadline with little free time to spare)

Well, just to make it easier, here's a list of questions

Well a fact that most of you don't know is that Rick isn't my real name. It's just a screen name for a James Bondesque character that I made a few short movies of.

Ah you named your sigfig after me, cool name!

Now for the questions:

-Where are you from? Amsterdam, Holland

-How old are you? 26

-Why did you become a Lego fan? Because it gives a clean material and freedom to build models.

-When did you start? At the age of 8 i started building my first serious MOCs.

-Why did you join the Eurobricks community? After seeing one of my MOCs being discussed.

-What do you do here? Moderator, make comics, but mostly build cool stuff

-How much time do you spend here typically? Approx. 1 hour a day

-How much time do you typically spend with Lego? Not enough

And a few new questions

-Why? Didn't have space or bricks too build.

-How do you feel about being part of this community? Awesome, made a lot of international friends that i also met in person here. :sweet:

-How do you feel about being a Lego fan? I'm a versatile person, i don't really think about that.

-How do people around you view it? Never had any bad reactions, ever.

-If in a relationship, what are the interactions with them and your Legos? See previous question, but i don't really care much about what others think about me, or what i'm doing.

-Same as above, but for kids? and pets and so on? Huh?

-What do you think about the "spirit" of the website? Its friendliness? It's great, but i do miss honesty in comments on MOC's a bit.

-Has your relationship with Lego changed? Do you mean if i sleep with it, or not?

Once again, thank you for your help and participation. You're welcome!

Yay for surveys! ;)

-Where are you from? Virginia (USA)

-How old are you? (general is ok too) 29

-Name? Jamie

-male/female? Guy

-single or married? Married

-kids, pets, imaginary friends, real imaginary friends, side personalities in minifigs/username? No kids. We had a black kitty named Cleo who just passed away last month, though... She was our daughter. :(

-what do you do for a living? Graphic designer

-Any other hobbies/activities? The usual: movies, reading, games, etc.

-Why did you become a Lego fan? I've been one for as long as I can remember, so probably somewhere around age 5 or 6.

-When did you start? This quiz? Just now!

-Why did you join the Eurobricks community? (what do you think about it. remember you can PM me just in case) I joined up in 2005 but am not terribly active; I'm much more likely to be posting at FBTB because of the Star Wars slant. I'd been reading news and posts on EB before ever joining, though. I really like how EB folks always have something to say about MOCs– there's rarely a thread that just goes by the wayside.

-What do you do here? (do you have any jobs, lead anything, create anything, are part of anything?) Not that I know of. ;)

-How much time do you spend here typically? Usually just enough to read new threads or check out the frontpage news.

-How much time do you typically spend with Lego? Not much, actually. Our apartment doesn't have a ton of play room, which is why my building spurts tend to be way spread out. Once we have a house, though... Watch out!

-Have you gone through a "dark period" with Lego or the website? Yep, 1992 to about 1999 or so. None of these "oh I don't like LEGO for two months, I'm in a dark age!" stuff. ;)

-Why? It just happened, I guess.

-How do you feel about being part of this community? Fuzzy.

-How do you feel about being a Lego fan? Even more fuzzy.

-How do people around you view it? They see it as something that makes me unique (among adults, anyway)– I've been lucky enough to never really have to deal with "you play with TOYS!?" comments.

-If in a relationship, what are the interactions with them and your Legos? (what do they think, do, how they feel) (save purchasing/monetary topic answers for later) I like to give my wife the smaller Town/construction sets for her birthday or Christmas. She'd never go out and buy LEGO for herself and she'll only build them if I'm hanging around, but she likes them and gets a kick out of figuring out how to put them together.

[snip/10 - my comments will be bolded.]

Well, just to make it easier, here's a list of questions

-Where are you from? Knoxville, TN (USA)

-How old are you? 15.

-Name? Travis.

-male/female? Male.

-single or married? Uh...single? =P

-kids, pets, imaginary friends, real imaginary friends, side personalities in minifigs/username? Well, since I guess it's what you mean, my username comes from a name I chose for myself a long time ago (02, I think) for a Metroid RPG. It kind of stuck. =P

-what do you do for a living? I'm currently a sophomore in High School, but I plan to get a degree in either law or nuclear engineering - assuming, mind, that my band-in-progress doesn't take off...^.~

-Any other hobbies/activities? I'm an avid video gamer; especially rhythm/music games such as Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and Dance Dance Revolution. I also write poetry, sing, play the keyboard, and am learning to play an actual guitar.

-Why did you become a Lego fan? Mmm, long story short - parents couldn't potty train me with normal methods, parents offered me a toy if I "used the potty", it worked, I got a bucket of lego...I have a very active imagination, so I was hooked =D

-When did you start? 4 years of age. [sad, yes...] And no, I didn't ever use Duplo - I went straight to the tiny blocks.

-Why did you join the Eurobricks community? Well, when I joined I was heavily into Bionicle, and a site I went to that I was growing tired of (due to power issues with the staff, and many friends of mine getting banned because of it) posted that there were leaked pictures, but we shouldn't talk about them. Naturally, as anyone would do after finding out something was out there but couldn't be discussed, I found it, and needed a place to discuss it. In came Eurobricks, and I joined after about 6 months of lurking - not just for the leaks, mind, but that's next...

-What do you think about it? (NOTE: I took this from the question above's subscript to split it up.) I think it's the best lego fansite I've been to! Eurobricks, to me, embodies the spirit of the true AFOL - a person who is able to be passionate about all things Lego, and yet still have a sense of humor and mischief. Compared to other sites, including the site I hailed from, this site is incredibly lax on rules - not so lax that you can get away with things obviously wrong, but they basically accept that you can post what you want if you're mature enough, and I like that.

-What do you do here? Uh...I'm the resident Mafia guy, I guess. Since another site I used to go to (RIP Samus.co.uk) had a great amount of mafia going on, I got hooked, and began to play IRC mafia - and from there I brought my skills here, and hopefully my grasp of the rules will allow me to create something special with my (and ImperialShadows' - we're working on it as a team since we both had the same idea) Pirate Mafia.

-How much time do you spend here typically? This may be considered pathetic, but...anywhere from 4-10 hours a day, depending on how much I'm on the computer. EB is the first site I check in the morning, and the last site I see before going to bed - I've never had Firefox open without Eurobricks intentionally since I joined.

-How much time do you typically spend with Lego? As much as time permits - currently I'm working more on expanding my collection than MOCing, but soon I'll be back in full force with techniques I've learned from the community, and I plan to eventually at least make something decent ^.~

And a few new questions

-Have you gone through a "dark period" with Lego or the website? The website? Nah, and I think I'll be here as long as it keeps the spirit of Eurobricks - the day the spirit of good humor dies is the day I leave. Lego...yes, sadly, and it was more traumatic than most as I gave all of mine away, including such rarities as old star wars sets by the dozens. At about 9 or 10 I went through that "faux maturity" phase where I decided in my youthful wisdom that toys and non-adult-oriented cartoons were for "babies". At the age of 12 I reconciled, though I was only into Bionicle for a year or so - then I got back into System through Exo-Force, and now I'm a huge Pirate and Space fan...hmm.

-Why? Oops, I seem to have answered that above...oh well.

-How do you feel about being part of this community? Great - like I said, Eurobricks is all about being able to talk with a level of maturity and humor in such a great balance...most websites can't claim that, let alone lego sites.

-How do you feel about being a Lego fan? I'm one of the few TFOLs that is completely comfortable with letting everyone know about it - and everyone in my school knows I love Lego. Nobody hassles me about it, either, which is great - so I leave it out usually when people come over. Their reactions stem from ignoring it, to commenting on how nice the models look sometimes, to even joining me in a bit of freeform MOCing. =P

-How do people around you view it? Friends, well, I answered that above too...darn, I'm just not good at this! Well, my family varies. My brother (who is 6) likes them too, but my mother thinks it's something I should grow out of. My stepdad doesn't care - if I don't leave it laying around and I don't ignore him when he needs me to do something, he's fine with it, and is the source of most of my money for sets. =P

-If in a relationship, what are the interactions with them and your Legos? (what do they think, do, how they feel) (save purchasing/monetary topic answers for later)

-Same as above, but for kids? and pets and so on? Ugh, I can't tell you how many rare pieces I've had chewed on by dogs...if you have puppies, never let them in the same room as your lego - even when boxed it isn't safe!

-What do you think about the "spirit" of the website? Its friendliness? Agh, that's another one I already answered...=P

-Has your relationship with Lego changed? Yes! I respect the brick much more, and I realize that being a fan of lego is something to be proud of - if you can't openly admit you enjoy something, do you really enjoy it?

-How do you feel about being a Lego fan? No longer embarrassed!

-How do people around you view it? They accept it. Colleagues, friends & family are always telling me about bargains or new sets they've seen. Xmas & Birthday presents are nearly always Lego or Lego related.

-If in a relationship, what are the interactions with them and your Lego? My wife has no interest but also has no issue. She sees it as a hobby and no different than if I fished, followed football or gardened (although I think she might actually like me to do the last one - You should see the state of my garden!)

-Same as above, but for kids? and pets and so on? My cat show my Lego no respect!

-What do you think about the "spirit" of the website? Its friendliness? In general, it is a good friendly website. I enjoy the severeness of some of the moderators!! (the other forum I am an active member of has no moderation at all - It's an interesting comparison for me!)

-Has your relationship with Lego changed? It went away and came back again. I am more interested now in the sets as Lego intended whereas when I was younger it was only about MOCs and nothing else.

Cheers
