Front Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I've had the Exo-Force 8103 for some time now. It's a set with a pretty cool look, although I don't really like the use of the bionicle pelvis and bionicle balls as arm linkages. Balls at the ancle is fine though, makes the feet easier to settle on the ground. The white-dark blue and yellow colors are a great combination, and I really like that this set has two big white aeroplane engines with interior. The four small yellow ones are great too, and I remember I had some of those back more than 20 years ago, but probably not in yellow. Now I picked up two more of the 8103 at the silly price of €2,70. Had the boxes lying around for some time, wondering if I should just open them and sorting the bricks out in my collection. Why not have some alternative-fun ? Well yeah, that's what I did instead, so I opened the two boxes, built a model, photographed it, disassemblied and built once again, repeating until I pretty much have run out of ideas. I haven't really done much building my own creations with bricks yet, but doing an alternative is much quicker done, as you are restricted in size and posebilities. But that is also the challenge, to make something that look and function pretty good, with a restricted number of bricks. Here is the first mech I made, only a handfull of pieces not used, though the mech only hosts one minifigure. It is shown besides the standard 8103. Next I put together an aeroplane, wing sticking out on all directions. On to another mech, this time with the more or less the original cockpit, just added twice. And finaly another aeroplane, very different design compared to the first one. The nose can be seen not to be aligned perfect in the first picture, but that's because it's linked to the rest of the aeroplane with ball joints. Hope you like them, well at least one of them Front Quote
zero1312 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) I like what you're doing with limited parts. Edited October 29, 2008 by zero1312 Quote
Guss Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 really nice with only chosen parts! I'm not an Exo-force fan but that looks great, I especially like the third picture! Quote
Asuka Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Very interesting and creative... and you really made me think of the possibilities with two of these sword thingies. Quote
Front Posted November 10, 2008 Author Posted November 10, 2008 Thanks for replies. I think this is not the last time I pick up a set and try and see what can be done with it. The yellow sword is quite interesting from a technical perspective, featuring two different materials in the same moulding, seperated by quite a sharp boundary. Not many elements are made that way. Klonoa Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Wow, I really like them. Especially the first and last ones. I've always liked Alternative building, myself. It's so fun to work with a limited set of pieces. It gives an extra challenge. Quote
