MOC Lego City. When is big too big?

Do you think this green/white/red building is too large for my city? Its about 6 or 7 bricks higher than teh Green Grocer. Its currently the tallest building we have.

I hate to downsize it but I think its too large. What do you guys/gals think?

I think its just fine its not too big it will give your city room to grow . The building looks great by the way. Id also like to see some more of that blue van.

Very nice. I don't think it looks too big at all. I like the combination of colors that you've used - very original. I would much rather see a style like this rather than a City with a street so full of vehicles, figs, and buildings, that it takes away from the look of a real city. This looks great!

I think the important thing to do is maintain the scale with the rest of your buildings. Although your questionable building is much taller, the scale is the same and like in real cities, not all so "cookie-cutter".

No way but you should make a more bigger and historic looking building (if your not broke on health inshurense or buying that new dreamhouse).

I think if you make your other buildings large it will not look bad.

It's a lovely building. I would not make it smaller. If you are concerned about appearing out of scale next to your smaller buildings, you could add some detailing that might suggest a reason that it is larger. Perhaps a turret, or a clocktower to suggest a municipal building. Perhaps side entrances and /or balconies to suggest an apartment building. Maybe you could give it a large courtyard or parking area. Just a few suggestions.

well.. seriously .. I think it's fine, I don't really think it's too large, well, in some city, there is a BIG building with smalls one arounds :

check the building on the left of the picture, it's the only "tall" building of the city^^ ( it's the city where I grew up, Carry Le Rouet , near Marseille, France ) so.. I agree that everyone there call this tower : " the ugly tower" or "the shame of Carry" ... but it's there, so a tall building surrounded by little one is not "shocking" to me ^^ plus, the size difference between your buildings and these one is not so big. so I think the same than Cpt Willabee :

I think it's ok the way it is. I don't find it too big. No need to change anything. By the way, it's a great moc, that house!

I agree with what's said above, I think it's an excellent building. I can agree with you that it appears way to big, but I would solve that problem by simply moving the building next to another building of similar size, or build something similar-sized next to it, instead of tearing it down.

Yeah, keep it as it is, and build something of similar size next to it. That should do it.

It's not too big, but in future you should make more buildings that size as well as the old size.

In my opinion it's the sloped roof that makes the otherwise awesome building look too big in comparison to it's neighbors. I for one have never seen such a high slope in a roof of a high house.

If you try to make a flat top to it, it would definitely pass as an elegant apartment building rather than an overgrown villa.

You have a good suggestion there Sandy. Maybe just a redesign on the roof may put it in perspective with the other buildings.

Hey everyone. I appreciate all the comments. After review and some thinking I've decided to go with Sandys advice on the flat top roof. I did however want to keep the veranda at the top though. I removed the white sloped roof, put some inverted white slopes all around, and fenced it in.

That does actually look way better! It's still larger than the surrounding buildings, but now it doesn't stand out infavourably. Keep it like that!

You have done a very good job creating your MOC. I don't think this is too big at all. It is just the right size. Maybe you could expand your lego city in the future.

I was going to say it's a great building but the sloped roof is too big - but never mind. It's all been said and done, it looks fantastic now. I like the combination of color and realism in your whole city , very well done.

As old saying goes, I don't think it's the height that is the problem, more the width...

Maybe the building wouldn't stand out quite as mich if it wasn't as wide... (and maybe a little lower).

These changes are very much for the best. You have made it represent an aprtment building better. It looks a heap more like an apartment building in NYC or somewhere. So well done. Do you have a link to the whole city?

the new version fits much better into your city. A tip for the future: don't place it directly besides much lower buildings. you can place it at a service station (e.g. a gas station?)
