Basically the Community response has been outstanding, so we want to make this thing enormous!

Step one is to choose a prefered floor plan to then divide up into builds for the community builders.

Below are some options that hopefully get us moving in the right direction. Thanks to Sandy, Teddy and Thrash for some ideas. Depending on the floor plan selected, we may then have to determine baseplate sizes for rooms afterwards.

Majority rules guys, so help shape this community.

3.Teddy = Beaumaris in Wales

4.Teddy = Muiderslot in the Netherlands

5. ISC off net.

As a bonus here are some of the room ideas from Pickerel, feel free to add any we may have missed.

Garden

Barracks

Wizard's Astronomy Tower

Dungeon

Solar

Kitchen

Blacksmith

Stable

Armory (for storing weapons)

Grand Hall

Fletcher

Chapel

Gatehouses

Dovecote

King's Room

Guest Room

Servant's Quarters

Carpentry

Also the idea of adding a port/ wharf entrance to the castle is a valid idea too, that im sure we could add on somewhere.

All plans will need tweaking later so drop by the pinned topic in future to help out :classic:

I must say that I think ISC's one is a little... well square. :sceptic: It looks a little to uniform to be realistic. What we really need is a mixture of ISC's, thrash's, and Sandy's. I must say that for what we want to do, thrash has the best sort of idea, with lots of easy to build modules. But then, I like the asymmetrical idea behind Sandy's one, and ISC's also has plenty of room for some great stuff. Have a look at my idea of teams in the other thread, because I think this could be incorporated into that idea nicely. I'll have more to say in the other thread. For now, I'll hold my vote.

I hesitated a long time.. but I voted for the thrash one, it's close to the Sandy idea, and less "squarry" than the ISC project, of course it's less realistic than teddy projects, but It'll be easier to build ^^

Funny enough, I actually voted for Trash's second idea, since it's much more usable than mine, but has roughly the same idea. What I would like to add to it would be a bigger keep in the middle, and fewer sections on the outer wall.

I was thinking that the keep should have a few different sized room-modules that could be combined in a dollhouse-like style. The large rooms could include the throneroom and the entrance hall, for example, while medium-sized rooms would be the kitchen and the king's chamber, and small rooms could be the armory and the wizard's office.

Each room-module would have two or three solid walls and one or two open walls, and then there could be a hallway-module with windows to the courtyard and doors to the rooms.

How would this all sound?

I'll post another miniature of what I mean later today.

I like this idea Sandy. Somebody could build the external walls, and then other people who perhaps don't have as many bricks could work on the interior modules, which would all slot into place. This idea is very appealing, as it means that the person working on the walls doesn't have to build all the rooms as well, but can have someone else do that. Yes, I think this idea would work perfectly. :classic:

I was hesitating a bit between trash and ISC, but finally i voted for ISC because of it's space for buildings and his (little bit of) asymetrical.

It all sounds like a cool thing to build! I can't wait to see the result!

This is a hard decision to make, especially Thrash and ISC. Thrash's layout looks impressive on its outer curve rims, and the key installations are around its gates and center. While ISC's layout has the citadel and outer layer, which separate the key installations from its inside which has a wide courtyard from its center surroundings.

Personally, I feel ISC's layout will work out, and I am looking forward to the final selected layout. Indeed, this is an exciting project!

I voted for Thrash's, but I might be a little biased...

The reason I like mine the best is that it will allow for a medieval walled city, which will lead to lots of cool creations like an apothecary, wizard tower, adventurers guild, theives guild, tavern, etc. while still having all of the classic castle components like a blacksmith, dungeon, and keep. Also, since it's larger it will allow a lot more people to get involved, which is important since we've gotten so much positive response to the idea of this whole project.

As for the wharf/dock, it could be easily attached at any of the 3 middle towers (7, 15, or 32) depending on where we want the body of water to be.

Also, mine seems to be the most modular and will make for the smoothest community build.

It was close for me between ISC's and Thrash's, but in the end I decided on Thrash's, mainly because I like the slightly irregular shape of it and I find it very easy to understand.

And here are the pictures I promised, just to show what I was talking about to everybody:

So there would be different sized rooms and hallway modules, like this:

And they could be combined in numerous ways, just like LEGO bricks themselves:

P1120298.jpg

P1120291.jpg

P1120292.jpg

P1120300.jpg

P1120295.jpg

So only the sky is the limit of how tall the castle could be! On top of these rooms, there could be roof-modules, barricades and tower-modules.

That looks very good to me, but then we have to look that the whole building is stable enough, that could become a problem imo. But besides that, modular giant castle ON!

I'd imagine some Technic pins and a few studded plates among the smooth ones (just like in the official module sets) would take care of the stableness of the structure.

ISC's plan I like the best. It's nice and in between Sandy's and Thrash's.

I agree with Sandy, LEGO's fairly light and a four floor castle is nothing a few technic pins can't fix.

Castle ON! :sweet:

Since some poeple expressed interest in having a dock of some sort, I've added one to my plan so that you can see how it would fit in:

 Now I would have voted for yours! (if it had non-symmetrical towers  )

Now we can have hamster-style cranes and Chinese ships and cogs!

2 1/2 new ideas:

Its all chugging along nicely folks. Keep those ideas coming.

Thrash I think with whatever design we decide upon we have to use your design program to draw up the final schematic.

So if you are keen you can have the job of architect/foreman for the global end product.

Sure, that sounds good. I would love to do that.

Also, do you think you could update the original post on here to show my updated design with the dock so that people who might just read the first post before they vote will see it?

Thanks!
