Explosion vignette

I was building an explosion for the background of my avatar, and I think it became pretty good.

I decided to show it here, so here it is.

I used a special orange-lighting torch for the light.

I took this pic mainly because I like that the light reflection looks like a shock wave:

I'm going to be honest and say I don't think you're quite there yet. But you've covered some brilliant ground so far! Very innovative and some nice ideas to take things in new directions...

I think the explosive effect would have been better if you build the base of the transparant colored bricks LOWER, having the same level as your avatar. Also have you experimented with light-reflection (paper?) around the "setup"? I mean in the front (before the minifig), so some of the light would reflect to the back (after the "MOC") possibly enlarging the explosion. If you understand what I mean...(hard for me to explain).
