darkagent Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 That's a great choice. It should be 32x32. We're still working on all the specifications for the keep rooms, so I'm not sure about the height. Cool, 32x32 seems look a good size. I think the Throne room should be pretty tall, maybe double the normal size? Oh, the ideas that are flowing through my mind. I'm so excited to get started on this. It will be something that will take some time. I'm going to have to make some major purchases on Brinklink, since I'm practically out of bricks. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 (edited) hi everyone,I'm not sure where to post this, but i'd like to join... Matn told me about this community build castle, which really captivated my interest. When i looked at the list and saw that the physician was still missing, i made one ... Where should i post images? I saw there are 2 teams, so could you assign me to one please? Or can we choose freely? anyway, thanks and greetings, Christoph doctor on my shelf Welcome aboard stenertje, I will put you in Beta (my team, yah!) and feel free to post up to five pics in that thread of your physician, no bigger than 800 x 600. Cheers Welcome to the build! I really like your doctor module! I assume that I Scream Clone (the leader of the EBCCB) will put you on Team Beta since right now Alpha has 17 members and Beta only has 16, but I guess you should wait for his official word on the matter.ISC, here's the code for stenertje's thumbnail: stenertje ~Thrash Thanks for the thumb Thrash. Thanks for all of you welcoming stenertje while I was asleep in Aus That's a great choice. It should be 32x32. We're still working on all the specifications for the keep rooms, so I'm not sure about the height. Here's Sandy's basic hallway design in Ldraw form. I think this might be a good plan for the hallway: What do you guys think? ~Thrash The only problem with the hallway is the lion brick will be stuck inside a room, so it makes no sense having it on the outside wall of a hallway to me. The basic structure of the hallway is , but wouldn't it be better to tile the whole floor (with a pattern)? And about the height.. I think that the Entranceway will be a bit higher than 7 bricks.. Certainly when there's a staircase in it. I have some ideas for tile patterns that I hope to get up soon, but feel free to post yours here too. I really think the staircase should be at least 7 height obv to reach the next floor. Let the ideas flow people, we can make a voting topic for keep dimensions if you like, aaarrrr nuts I will do it anyway. Just need some time tonight. Off to work now. You all have a day from now to submit ideas for floor patterns, hallway designs etc. I will then make a poll topic for multiple voting. Cheers Edited December 23, 2008 by I Scream Clone Quote

Oops! When I made that wall I was thinking that all of the hallways open up to the courtyard, but clearly they don't! ~Thrash Edited December 23, 2008 by Thrash Quote
I Scream Clone Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Ok, I have started on the hallway layouts. Any more ideas are welcome. Cheers ISC These are all 6 x 16 These are all just basic, we can add fancier stuff later on. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Will every module have to have the same style of hallway? Because some people might not have the correct pieces for a certain design. Those hallways you made look excellent though! Quote

Sandy Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Will every module have to have the same style of hallway?Because some people might not have the correct pieces for a certain design. Those hallways you made look excellent though! I believe it's the same thing as with other modules: do whatever you want to, but try to make it so that it connects to the other modules. You don't have to have windows on the walls in my opinion, or you can freely add a "backdoor" that leads to the courtyard (there should be other entrances than the main one, like a kitchen door for porting foodstuffs). These hallway models that I Scream Clone made are very nice, although they lack one important thing: the doors to the rooms. I don't think anyone will enjoy going to their room through an arch window. Nah, just kidding, I realize your model was meant to be an overpass or something like that. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 I will not taint my beautiful hallways with doors! preposterous notion. That would have sorted out a lot of the murders in mystery castle though Anyway here are 3 more, though im running out of ideas. This one should obv be 7 high. I cant be the only one with ideas out there......echo echo echo Quote
Brickthing Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 The windows on this one are a bit too big - we don't want minifig's falling out of the castle now do we? The other hallways are looking good though, and I suggest that you try and make some colourful stained glass windows for the hallways to break the greyness. Quote
JimBee Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I like your ideas for the hallway design, ISC, but they seem too complex, brick-wise, to me. I think I like Thrash's/ Sandy's better, and I have the pieces to build them (now that I have King's Castle Siege ). Quote
I Scream Clone Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 Castlestrike666, I was looking through the map of creations and thinking your staircase has to go up two levels to reach the Throne room. So we can safely say that each floor will be 7 bricks high + a baseplate for each floor. So 14 bricks and 2 plates high on a 32 x 32 baseplate should give you plenty of room to deliver another masterpiece. Oh and the Dungeon module you made was on a 32 x 32 plate, I apologize about that one, though I wasn't sure if you included an exterior castle wall or not? Does anyone have any more ideas on Hallway designs? I may tackle the Throne room next. Quote
darkagent Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Merry Christmas guys. Just wanted to post some WIP pics of my throne room. It's 32x32 and 14 bricks high. I'm going to tile the entire floor, so the green baseplate will not show. As of now, I've run out of bricks, so this project's going to have to wait until I get my Bricklink orders. Enjoy darkagent Quote
Sandy Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Whoa, that throne room is gorgeous! I like the balcony behind the throne, and I'm loving the evil advisor whispering to the king. Oh, and there's a phoenix there, too! I might just be blind, but where exactly are the doors leading to the room? All I can see is windows on every wall. Unless this is like Harry Potter, and the people travel through the fireplace. But yeah, there should definitely be a double door where the fireplace is now, so perhaps there could be fireplaces on the right and left walls. I'm also missing a throne for the queen. Don't forget the red carpet when you tile the floor, either! In any case, nicely done! Couldn't done it better myself. Quote

The doors are on the sides in between the columns (just not visible from these pics). This throne room only has a throne for the king (for now ). Yes, my plans are for a nice red carpet in front of the throne, flowing done to the fireplace. Quote
JimBee Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I'm loving the evil advisory whispering to the king. Me too! Reminds me of LOTR: The Two Towers. Looking great so far, darkagent. I would definitely follow Sandy's advice about adding a queen throne, red carpet and tiled floor. Maybe you could also add more wall decorations? Quote
Thrash Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 I hope everyone had a great holiday season! Between family and putting together new lego sets that I got for Christmas, I just haven't had any time for the EBCCB! Now that all of my new sets are put together and everything, I should have more time for the EBCCB. First, I'd like to show my Money Changer! More photos can be found in the beta thread. ISC, here's my thumbnail code: Second, here is my proposal for the keep walls and rooms: The halls that are between rooms and don't open up to the courtyard would obviously not have windows. Also, the rooms could have windows or whatever else you want on the outside walls. Let me know what you guys think. It's good to be back! ~Thrash Quote
Erdbeereis Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Nice money changer Thrash! I especially like the clerk. The keep/hallway design looks nice as well, but in case certain people don't have the right pieces, they could probably just do something similar right? Quote
Agersborg Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Hi all. I have some concerns and questions about the location of the Garderobe (Toilet). Although the keep should have sanitiary facilities, I doubt the lords and nobles would allow the commoners use them. I think there should be a privét located at the walls also. That will allow for easier transport of the refuse away from the castle. It will also be more historical and architectural correct. The privéts hang on the outside of the walls. This allowed the refuse to drop to the ground and the servants didn't have to carry the refuse down several flights of stairs. With all the possibilties of mishaps that might bring After seeing all the splendid MOC's in the two buildingthreads, I decided to make my own version of a privét/latrine/outhouse. Or as they were called in Oslo early last century; Klaskedass This is my very first castle MOC. And my first real MOC in over 25 years, so bear with me for not being up to date in clever techniques. First pictures shows the overhanging openings and the recess in the outer castle wall. The second picture shows the inside of the wall. Quote
Quarryman Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 After seeing all the splendid MOC's in the two buildingthreads, I decided to make my own version of a privét/latrine/outhouse. Or as they were called in Oslo early last century; Klaskedass Hi, and welcome to EB. May I suggest that you introduce yourself in the "Hello my name is" forum? And "klaskedass", I love that As you're referring to what they were called in Oslo, does that mean you're living there? (if it does that's great, always good to see more Norwegian AFOLs, we are actually quite a few in Oslo) This is my very first castle MOC. And my first real MOC in over 25 years, so bear with me for not being up to date in clever techniques. First MOC in over 25 years... I feel so young now Quote

JimBee Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Second, here is my proposal for the keep walls and rooms: Both look excellent! I'll have to take apart my King's Castle Siege to build my two rooms, hallways, and guard walls. Hopefully I have enough pieces now... By the way, great money changer! Quote
Thrash Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) Nice money changer Thrash! I especially like the clerk. The keep/hallway design looks nice as well, but in case certain people don't have the right pieces, they could probably just do something similar right? Thanks! Yup, as long as it looks about the same it would be fine, I assume. With all the possibilties of mishaps that might bring That looks like a great start on the toilet. You make a good point about the toilet being on the outside wall too, so perhaps next time the list of buildings is updated we'll add in your module! Also, welcome to the EBCCB! So the entrance hall w. staircase should look like that room?Kenny. Well, that room is just my proposal. We'll have to wait for word from ISC regarding what design path we're going to follow. My design would really just go for the modules that are 16x16 and 16x32. For the entrance hall with the staircase, you can pretty much do whatever you want on the 32x32 base as long as the stairs go from the first floor to the second. We're still deciding how high each floor will be... Both look excellent! I'll have to take apart my King's Castle Siege to build my two rooms, hallways, and guard walls. Hopefully I have enough pieces now...By the way, great money changer! Thanks! Before you start building you might want to wait for a final decision from ISC regarding which hallway plans we're going to go with. EDIT: With all of the questions about the keep that have been coming up, I figured I should fix up the layout to make everything a bit more clear. While I was at it, I updated the layout for the castle too with a few added modules! 0. Dock - Wouwie13, Captain Green Hair 1. Main Gatehouse - Dragonator 2. Oil Smelter - ISC 3. darkagent Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hey guys, hope you all had a happy new year. With the time off for the holidays, I was able to finish the Throne Room. I'll post more pictures in the Team Beta thread. Enjoy Darkagent Quote
castlestrike666 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Nice job darkagent! It's much better with the queen next to her husband and the red carpet on the floor I'd only change the flags sticking out of the wall to flags hanging on the wall, because it looks quite busy that way.. Otherwise it's very well done! Thumbs up! Quote
