Rayman Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 (edited) I suppose this tells a lot about myself. I love Clone Troopers. I spend much of my time drawing up decals for custom clone figures very much like this one. I believe this probably custom clone number 59 for me. Another Clone Commander that I can check off my to do list. This time around its Commander Bly. Actually I made this guy at the start of the year, but never got the time to photographing him - Commander Gree took too much energy out of me! As usual he is made mostly with decals, with the execption of the black line on the back of the helmet which was carefully painted. The yellow bits on the helmet are also also painted with acrylics. I used a semi-gloss to match the LEGO plastic look. I am afraid to that the fantastic macro-binoculars are obviously not mine :? I bought these from the awesome Arealight. I was very fortunate that he made these avaliable aroundt the time I designed Commander Bly. Photo Montage Oh for those wondering why I chose a darker brown and yellow colour combination for my Bly. was that the movie tan brown colour was too close to the "Star Corps" Yellow LEGO used. So I exaggerated the difference a little. The brown is very similar to TLC's original brown. I hope you like him and thanks for checking him out. Edited October 4, 2008 by Rayman Quote
Rayman Posted October 5, 2008 Author Posted October 5, 2008 Thanks I am glad that you like him. Commander Bly is guarding my printer at the moment. I'll most likely be making a Commander Deviss to complement this guy next. Quote
Lego12 Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Ooooh, that is a very nice custom! One of the best ones I have seen! Can't wait for more! Lego12 Quote
BlueBard Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Looks quite real for me! You could have told me it was a TLC official MF I would have believed you. Nice job Quote
Rayman Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 If you want to have a look at my other clones please have a look at myBrickshelf folder. Most of the figures that I have made are there. The trick to getting it look like a TLC figure is to use as little paint as possible, and decals as much I can. This is also because LEGO uses ink on their minifigs. Quote
Zepher Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Truthfully is amazing. You and Wuzzupbob are neck and neck, though I don't know of what sites Bob is on other than CABG. You said you were doing Deviss next, here's Bob's take on both of them! Bly: http://clonearmycustoms.com/cgi-bin/item.pl?cat=5&id=1 Deviss: http://clonearmycustoms.com/cgi-bin/item.pl?cat=18&id=1 Again, they're both good. Your's is far more detailed, but Bly's has something that your's doesn't, maybe it seems like your's is TOO detailed for a lego piece! AWESOME JOB! P.S. If you feel that this is advertising for Wuzzupob to much, I'll remove the links Rayman/Staff. Quote
kill will Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 WOW! Rayman, he looks awesome! So much better than WuzzupBob's in my opinion. The decal application is just perfect and smooth and, and, I love it so much. Quote
Rayman Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Getting that "smooth" look is notoriously difficult, as the inks on custom decals bleed half the time ruining the decal. I usually end up destroying 5-6 decal sets when making each figure. I suppose its because I made this one for myself that I could afford the time to make the decal application as smooth as possible. Zepher, that's okay. Its always good to see someone else's work I am alright with the links. Haha yeah, it is very detailed. My initial thought on making custom figures was to make them as detailed and as possible but hopefully not too much that it is unLEGO-y. I personally feel that detail is critical to getting the character right. Quote
Zepher Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 In that case, you nailed it head on! Great woek once again! Quote
Mike888 Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 If I didn't know any better, I would say that's animated! Quote
