We haven't been working on LEGO City too much over the summer, but fall is here in New England, so its time to get working again. I tried my luck at modular type city block last spring. I posted a few pics when I started it, and I think its almost done. The ground level has a pizza shop, pawn shop, bank and stairwell to the 2nd level office. I may go up one more floor. Its regular blue on the 2nd floor not medium as it appears in the photo. The roof lifts off. The whole 10 x 10 can lift out of the city block if I want to turn it or possibly move it to a different section of the city.

I haven't quite finished the inside yet, the pizza shop needs to be done.

All six of these buildings are on 10 x 10 bases and can be swapped around like musical chairs.

Heres a shot of the Octan gas station and convenience store. You have to drive up the backside ramp to access the gas pumps. This also puts it at a good level for the yellow train station behind it.

This last shot is the long view. Almost everything is scratch built or modified LEGO set. Almost everything is modular with removable floors and roofs. The city sits on a 4x8 sheet of plywood. I had it at 4 x 12 but didn't have enough train tracks to make it all the way around, so I brought it down to 4x8. Over the winter we will probably get it back to 4x12. Especially if I pick up the new Taj Mahal!

One last shot featuring the lovely Green Grocer!

Hope you like it, comments and criticism welcome.

I see you took my bank suggestion, nice. I really like the Gas station, very brilliant.

Suggestions always taken, usually put to good use!

The gas station was kind of strange building, I had one of those weird shaped thick green bases which I used for the roof. On the curved section I used a piece of that flexible black pole that comes with the Hobby Train to hold the Octan sign and follow the curve of the roof. Thanks!

Nice layout; the streets look a bit empty though. I would love to have as many houses as you have. My minifigs have to live in the passenger cars of my trains. I've noticed that we use the same road plates. I like the old grey ones with the bike lanes best.

Thanks Legotrainfan, I too like the old style grey roadplates. Most of them I've had since I was a kid. I removed a lot of cars and people for the photos to make it look uncluttered.

Oh and there is nothing wrong with living in a train!

Very nice.

The overall look of the town has some really nice buildings. It is clean, and the module feel to it is always welcome. It is an intersting concept with the larger vehicals. Actually, your town could use more minifigs and vehicals. This would make it a bit more lively. Just a suggestion. :sweet:

It is a very good build. Looks like a longterm project, so you will have probably fun with it for some time!

Let us enjoy too by posting frequent pics! Like one when you have finished your pizzashop for example.

Good you can switch those buildings around.

Beautifull Octan station !

Thanks VBBN and everyone else. I have removed some vehicles for the pics to clean it up a little. Tonight I will get a few shots with some more cars and people doing business in the city!

And thanks to everyone here and their awesome creations for the inspiration I get.

Who remembers the days before the internet when all we had for inspiration was our imagination and the back of the LEGO box??
