VBBN Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 I think the set was indeed available together with a "Starter Kit" that included track and a speed regulator... Yes, but it cost 30$ more. Great review! You have indeed make me felt regret back then, to pass out this set last year. Now, I have a good look on what this set is all about. The gifts, carriages, and its overall look are very nice, not to pass out. I felt that the down part of this set, is the lack of engine. Other than that, I think it's great. Thanks! And it might be avaible this coming christmas... Thank you for the nice review. The train has very nice details. You're welcome. Quote
legotrainfan Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Great review, thanks! There is one more thing to criticise about the train: you cannot open the doors of the passenger car and the caboose fully. That's something that annoys me slightly. But hey! It's still a great set! For those who have that set: do you also use two motors to pull the whole thing? I've one motor in the tender of set 10173 itself. It is supported by a motorised steam locomotive 10205. I think that set 10205 matches well with 10173. Quote

I to am slightly annoyed by the door porblem. It is especialy a problem near the caboose, as the roof isn't as easy to remove as on the Passenger car... Quote
iamded Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Wow, this is one stunning set! I love it! I'll have to convince Dragonator to get it... Thanks for the sweet review, ~VBBN~. Fantastic job. ~Peace Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Excellent review VBBN. Thanks for sharing. You provided some very nice close-up images of this set. I actually bought this set last Christmas, and have not yet taken it out of the box. Years ago, I had a thought that Lego should offer a Christmas train set, but one set/car each Christmas for a few years as part of a special limited collection; maybe even a Christmas station. It was nice to see Lego finally offer this set. Now I need to move the Playmobil train over this Christmas to make room for Lego's Holiday Train. Quote
