Joebot Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 My wife and I started a new home improvement project -- a room addition. My wife thinks we're adding a master bedroom / bathroom suite, but little does she know, the REAL reason for the project is a new Lego Room! We're putting a full basement beneath the room addition, and that will eventually be the location for my Lego town, Fluxington. I thought it might be fun to post some ongoing pictures of the project. First, here's what Fluxington looks like right now. It's built on top of a 10-foot-square table made of plywood and two-by-fours, with a three-foot hole in the center. Here's the architectural drawings, showing the current location of Fluxington and it's eventual new location in the new room addition. Next was the big hole (and the corresponding giant pile of dirt in my front yard). In this next one, the forms are up for the foundation walls. And then here's what it looks like with the walls poured and forms removed. You can also see the doorway they cut in the existing foundation to tie into the rest of the basement. We're a long ways away, but it's pretty exciting to see it taking shape! I'll post more pictures as things progress. -Joebot Quote
Wilhelm screamer Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Good luck with that, I really wish I could have my own room for LEGO ®, but alas there is no hope for that for me. Quote

JopieK Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) And then they wonder why some women suddenly go mad and slaughter their husbands... I first want a women that understands my LEGO problem b.t.w. if my father and I are building new ponds then my mom has also got a hard time (fighting for enough space etc.). We made a nice compromise in our current house. Above the garage there is an attick. We let the builder make a normal door to my brothers room. In the event that we find a new LEGO place he can use it as a living room (he has some brain injuries so will probably be living with my parents for quite some time). In the meantime my brother, my cousin and I use it as a LEGO room. Edited September 24, 2008 by JopieK Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Good luck... I guess you must really need the room! Quote
Nyundi Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I first want a women that understands my LEGO problem Lucky for me, my wife already knows that our first house will be having a lego room. In fact, whenever we talk (seriously or jokingly) about other luxury rooms, they are always "next to the lego room". Quote
Joebot Posted September 24, 2008 Author Posted September 24, 2008 And then they wonder why some women suddenly go mad and slaughter their husbands... Yeah, it's not hard to see how that could happen. However, my wife IS getting her new master bedroom / bathroom, so everybody wins, right? A buddy of mine sent me a link to this story about the guy with the biggest Lego collection in England. It's interesting to read, because HE says, "My wife's cool with it," ... but SHE says, "He's obsessed and it's taking over the house!!" Little miscommunication there?? Quote

Guss Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 ow man...you are very lucky, you have a lot of lego and you can add bricks ( :P ) to your home to put your legos in... meanwhile I live in a 40 m² apartment and I build and photography my Lego where I sleep.. Quote
Eilif Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Looks awesome so far Joebot. I like seeing how folks organize store and display their LEGO. but this takes it too a whole new level. Keep us updated. And then they wonder why some women suddenly go mad and slaughter their husbands... I don't thinkthe slaughter will happen until Joebot's wife realizes that contrary to the drawings, the new basement is not the "new location of fluxington", but rather is actually expansion space for fluxington Quote

Hehe, they also can't calculate. The article is dated 23 sept. 2008, yet says "Lego's Danish founder Ole Kirk Christansen secured the patent for the modern day brick design 30 years ago in January 1958." I think they meant 50 years? I don't think the Brickish Association was around 25 years ago (in the article he joined it 5 years ago) ;) Quote
