Captain Zuloo Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Alternatively, you could use them as dress uniforms, in contrast to the standard "battle" uniforms. Ah good idea! As you already have an army, you could use the new torsos for when you make MOC's of functions and ceremonies etc. Quote
Zorro Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) In your case I would use them to form some additional units Bonaparte, I would certainly use some too build a French Sanitation unit (white epaulettes+shako+red paints??) and another French Guard unit (the Dutch grenadiers: white pants and white arms, shako, red epaulletes??) And PLEASE dont forget about the Scottish (the Grays??), no Waterloo without some Scottish units! Those are two units I am going to form for myself for sure, and have you taken a look at my list above? All those units carry resembling (red) unifoms! Legoking Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 If they are making new imperial armada blue guards, I think you should not mix them together and have a separate battle. Quote

I have thought of making a Dutch Independent army under the Prince of Orange, and use them in, as an example, the battle of Waterloo. As most know, many (or most) units of Wellington were Dutch/Belgian/...) Its not fully according to their hisytorical unifroms, although SOME Dutch uniforms were Red...) DOES ANYONE HAVE the uniform books off Liliane and Fred Funcken too ?? They are so good for reference! Edited September 25, 2008 by zorro3999 Quote

In regard to the actual topic and my last posts: I have decided I will recreate the "Blyland brigade" with the new minifigs, as well as some french hospitaltroops and Dutch Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard. You can find the unifrom descriptions a few posts ago ! Quote
Imperial_Guard Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I've already collected tons of the old (classic) Imperial Guards (red coats) and Imperial Soldiers (blue coats). I'm using the old redcoats for my British armies and the old blue coats for my English armies. What should I do with these new soldiers? Mix them with my redcoats? Put them in some kind of special regiment? I'm looking for a historically correct "solutions". You could: 1. Royal Marines 2. Palace Guards/specialist unit 3. Provincial Unit raised by "The Brickish" to protect overseas colonies Quote
Tordenskjold Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 For me it depend on how many i cant get my hands on. if i get only 10-30 men i think thye will end up as a spesial troop, like sharphooters of like that. but since i have a plan of getting ALOT i want to make a special battallion/regiment. something like kings own rifle or whatever the name will be. dont think i will mix them in as officers etc. Because we all know how bad it will be for moral if we removed the old officers and replace them with new ones and last. if you dont know what to do with the old imperial guards, then ill find a place for them in my regiment Bet you havent had that suggestion before Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 27, 2008 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 27, 2008 Thanks for all the very good suggestions. There are several suggestions in this thread that I never could have thought of myself. Since I already have around 150 Imperial Guards (my English infantry) I would prefer to use these new ones as something else than line infantry. Right now I'm considering using the new ones my English cavalry. That would be ideal since my English army doesn't have any cavalry yet. However, I'm not sure the shako's are historically correct for English cavalry units during the Napoleonic wars. Alternatively I can use them as Highlanders. But in this case I'll have to remove the shako's for sure with busby's (and I would like them to keep the shako's). Marines is another possibility. Or making them some foreign nation fighting with or against the English/French. Once these become available I'll buy a bit more that 30 of them, that's for sure. So they will never become the bulk of my English army. I'll keep the old ones for that. if you dont have these books Bonaparte, you are welcom to come on over and lend them! I don't have these books and I would love to look at them. I'll try to pass by in the near future. Quote
Admiral Bejaune Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 I know this topic has gone cold, but I just ran across it.. I am probably going to use the new soldiers as an admirals personal guard or perhaps a special unit in the marines. Im sure those ideas have been said before but I did not feel like reading every response on the subject. -T Quote
Thomas B. Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Well, to make it easy on you, you can just give them to me when you buy the new pirates sets! Or you can give them to Hinkley, my hero! Quote
QuartermasterRobert Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 I like the idea of highlanders! If you can make a good enough kilt, I'd love to see how! Quote

Captain Blackmoor Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Use the new red coats in the regiment of the trading companies. As you see in Pirates of the Caribbean III, the red coats from britain were removed and new blue soldiers from the East Indian Trading Company took over the power. The trading company's soldiers can be an elite class as well. Quote

Yeah, the older ones looked better because of the white torso, there's just something that isn't right about the new one, maybe it has to do with the red torso. The new ones are nice, but only in relatively small numbers or for a special regiment in an army (artillery, grenadiers, maybe even a band or other supporting troops like medics or messengers). For an entire army, the old ones look better. Quote

I'll agree with you that the lack of white torso is a negative, and the old imps had their classic charm, but allow me to justify my opinion on why the new guards are better: 1. More detail on torso print 2. PRINTED shako! 3. New brown backpacks 4. And they come in impulse sets so they'll be dirt cheap on the internet (I know that isn't to do with the look of them but it does matter ) Quote

But is it sure the shako's are printed and not just stickers? On one hand it is nice if they would be printed, but it'll really limit their use, opposite to the "old" neutral shako's. And are new brown backpacks a good point? (you mean reddish brown right?), it is good that they have backpacks, but I like the old brown colour better. It would be nice if the new backpacks where that new dark brown colour. Edited October 12, 2008 by Fluyt Quote

Old brown is a better colour, but new brown is here to stay so I'm working on updating my collection to it, and as to the shakos I'm assuming they'll be printed as the dark (and light) wizard's hats were. QuartermasterRobert Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Personally I like the new ones better because of the red torso... it looks like they're wearing a jacket now. The old ones only looked like "redcoats" from up front :p Quote
