Then people would buy the sets and TLC would make some money. Does that answer your question?

I personally can't see these as themes, although you never know, TLC could make it work.

A giant Dough-boy would be neat...

No more movie Tie-ins.

LEGO sets should stand alone and have limitless possibilities.

with movie tie-ins, what's appropriate to do other then just reenact the movie?

It's worked before, with more open-ended and Fantasied Movies (The First Harry Potter, Star Wars) but with plot-based movies like Spider Man or (Bleh) Star Wars:The Clone Wars, it just feels like a diorama of the movie, not something you can make your own stories or adventures with.

I say someone's stuck in the early 90's... :hmpf:

Don't get me wrong, those were movies I grew up with, too, but if you go to any kid today and mention those names, you'd get a simple "huh?!" as a reply. So to produce children's toys from something that was hip and cool twenty years ago (and hasn't seen a resurrection since, unlike Star Wars), would be an idiotic business decision indeed.

Sure, adult collectors might buy them in hordes, but do you really think we AFOLs form that significant margin of LEGO buyers?

Edit: I didn't realize a new Ghostbuster film was in the making, but I don't think that changes my opinion.

The same can be said about releasing OT sets from Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Characters like shortround, jock or satipo (and several locations, like the map room or temple) are probably not known to kids these days, but TLG still releases them.

I don't think TLC would ever do it, but those as themes (especially BTTF) would be cool. It would be highly unlikely and better for TLC to do their own themes though.

Not where I live. Just about everyone's heard of Back To The Future and Ghostbusters here.

TLG would also have to get permission and licenses to use the theme from the makers of both films. Correct me if I'm wrong as well? I also don't know how well children would take to the theme as was noted above. :sceptic:

I want to buy a Lego Delorean ! with doc minifig ! and the Ghostbuster car too ! that's a nice idea, But they can't do a theme for every movie we love, maybe one day, who knows ?

Anything you want. Just cause you have vehicles and characters based on a movie or theme doesn't mean you have to renact it. Does a fan of Forumla 1 who collects the Ferrari lego theme have to renact every F1 race? And so what if kids do want to renact the movie? If there fans why not? By having movie based themes gives the person the ability to either renact the movie, or create there own story with there favorite characters. I think thats great!

I wouldn't mind some more movie tie ins. Although maybe as online purchases only, and save the shelf space for more traditional LEGO sets. I was just starting to enjoy the movie tie-in minifig magnet sets until they stopped them. Although I think some more recent movies might create better sales. I'm thinking the likes of the matrix, alien vs predator (replace bionicle!), simpsons (replace sponge bob), and maybe a lord of the rings range with lots of amy building sets :)

But my personal ultimate wish for a LEGO movie tie in would be Blade Runner! I've got the Indy fig ready, but it's not quite the same hehe.

I could see LEGO do Back to the Future for their 30th anniversary in 2015 if they can secure a licensing agreement with Universal Studios.

Movie Tie-ins miss the point of LEGO.

Most are designed with being true the movie as the priority: not being fun.

"Hey boss! I just came up with this awesome trap for the Temple of the Crystal Skull set!"

"There wasn't a trap like that in the movie. we can't put that in!"

Just look at the Temple Escape set. how many adventures could you possibly have with that?

It's just a completely linear representation of what's in the movie.

sure the designers used some innovation TRYING to make it exactly like it was in the movie, but that's the problem. they aren't using those talents to create something original and open-ended, such as the Amazon or Egyptian Adventurer sets were.

It's fine once in a while, with more open-ended and object-based franchises (the First Harry Potter, Batman) but for things like Indiana Jones, very linear and event-based movies, the play value and Creative potential of the sets greatly decreases.

Also, read my whole post before you try and disagree with me.

Though with the new Ghostbusters film that one might change.

I heard that the new GB movie might be CGI animated. Could make it marketed for kids? Although I don't think too many kids would now what Ghostbusters is, but that same thing happened with the Indy line and LEGO made that thene work.

Sorry, but i think your missing the point intirely.

Like i already said, having lego based movie characters gives you the possibility to create your own adventures with your favorite movie/series characters. You obviously have no imagination if all you see is movie scences. Thats to bad. Yes, many are designed after certain scenes in the movie, but that in no way means you have to follow thoses scenes. You you be saying the same thing if in fact the indie sets were Amazon or Egyptian sets? For the most part there preety close with the exeption that they carry the indie name.

And i did read your hole post. Just quoted what i needed. Try reading mine.

What if there was a Ghostbusters and Back to the Future theme?

Those are exactly the themes I want to make customs of one day, when I have the time. But I doubt it would sell if it would ever be made, not enough vehicles and different figures to gain enough money and so very old, the kids don't know it.

Oow, that would be nice, especially the Gostbusters theme...

The clone wars Hutt minifig/brick (the baby one) reminded me of Slimer so they could use that.

It sounds very plausible to, with the game coming out not to far from now, then TT games could make another spin off of that XD

I like the Back to the future idea, if they only made a scale model of the timemachine/car.

They're both fun ideas, but probably not real plausible. Both franchises are pretty old, and neither has the long-term popularity of Indy or Star Wars (both of which are even older!). Besides, what would the sets be, besides the obvious Delorean and the Ghostbuster-mobile?

Although ... the idea of a Bill Murray mini-fig makes me very happy. I'd mod mine into Carl Spackler, complete with plastic explosive squirrel and hunting rifle. "Freeze, gopher!"

My absolute dream theme for TLC would be the upcoming Avengers movie. Unfortunately, I'm sure it will be PG-13, and TLC seems to have a pretty firm PG-or-under rule for acquiring movie licenses (except for "Revenge of the Sith" of course).
