Jeff S Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) Hello people. First off, I have only been reading a short time, but have enjoyed what I have seen so far. Second off the said auction is not mine or am I any way affiliated with it. I read the long 14 page or so post of the set and realized what a hot topic it was. So I posted. If I am not allowed, remove it or remove me please mods. Thirdly and sort of first off. I am a collector, a new one at that. I am in my 30s and live in Michigan. This is my first post and as I mentioned I have only been a reader. I have a couple kids and 2 of them are starting to enjoy their legos, so its becoming fun times. We are currently working on a city. I have yet to build the display but as a carpenter, it should be a snap. As of now we have been buying CITY sets, and some older sets as well. Snagged the 7249 XXL Crane a few weeks back on Craigslist, brand new in box for $35 and the lady tossed in the 7942 Fire Truck NIB for anothe $5. Was a steal !! We have the Cargo Stacker, the Fire Boat as well as the Hover Craft and a few others. We finally got our first big piece and its the Coast Guard Platform. So far its just a box, but as soon as its busted open, I will be happy to do a post of pics and a review. Well I think I said my hellos, I know there is a proper forum, but the post was meant to be about the Vestas. I figured I would kill two birds with one stone. If at all any of this is out of line, please email mods and let me know what I did wrong. Hinckley I saw that you are a Chicago native. I visit often as I have a close friend there, may be going this weekend actually. If you dont know the place, please go eat at Fogo Da Chos for me one night. Downtown on Ohio. Take your appetite. Ok enough said. Thanks and sorry for the long read. Jeff Edited September 12, 2008 by Jeff S Quote
Scouty Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Hey Jeff, welcome to Eurobricks ! And thanks for sharing the info about how to get a Vestas set ! Quote
ProducePrincess Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 in a way i think it would be smart to skip this auction because lego would'nt make a beautiful power functions set without releasing it to the public Quote
Jeff S Posted September 12, 2008 Author Posted September 12, 2008 I dont know enough yet from what I have seen here, but I really dont expect anyone to be paying that price. I just figured for those who dont search the bay that often, that it would be worth watching. I doubt it sells. I am a frequent poster on a few other types of boards and I know how spamming of auctions gets frowned on over yonder, so I didnt want to link it. I think it was an easy find none the less. I do hope that the windmill makes it as a public release, seeing how enthused some members here alone were, I think the set would do well. Thanks for the welcome, I look forward to being here. Scouty Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I guess you're right, that price is quite a bit. 1,700$ Quote
Erdbeereis Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Welcome to Eurobricks Jeff S! I personally will wait and see whether this set come out to the public next year. It definitely is a great looking set though! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Welcome to EB, Jeff S! I do hope that the windmill makes it as a public release, seeing how enthused some members here alone were, I think the set would do well. I really do hope that, too. It would really be a shame if TLG doesn't sell this set for the public. In my opinion there have been enough topics and petitions here on EB and all over the web, there have been sent emails to Lego and Vestas that Lego must be blind if they don't realise that this set is very in demand by a huge mass of Lego fans and that they could make a lot of money when releasing it for public (of course not for these utopian prices like e. g. at ebay - but surely for about up to the price of the awesome 10188 Town Plan). BTW: We have a topic about the amazing 4999 Vestas Wind Power Plant set here, too. If you want to, drop over! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Hinckley Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Hinckley I saw that you are a Chicago native. I visit often as I have a close friend there, may be going this weekend actually. If you dont know the place, please go eat at Fogo Da Chos for me one night. Downtown on Ohio. Take your appetite. Fogo de Chao is two blocks away from where I live. Bring an appetite for skewered meat and also a thick wallet. It's a pricey place. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town on Saturday. Also, judging by your avatar, you are 12. I'm not sure I should meet a 12-year-old for Dinner at Fogo de Chao. I hope you have a good time in Chicago. If your avatar is misleading and you are, in fact, an adult please PM me next time you will be in town. As for the topic, Yay! Vesta's windmill. Trying to stay on topic. I will move this to the Town forum, though... Quote

Manta Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I guess you're right, that price is quite a bit. 1,700$ A bit high? A little more than a bit! Quote
CP5670 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 If someone actually buys that, it must be pretty close to the record. The most expensive single Lego set I've seen there was an MISB 954 Sky Copter that sold for $1730 a few years ago. Quote
Guss Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 http://brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=954-1 this set ? at 1730 $ ? omg peoples are crazy! Quote
The Rancor Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 http://brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=954-1 this set ? at 1730 $ ? omg peoples are crazy! The bidders must have been drunk at the time Quote
CP5670 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) http://brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=954-1 this set ? at 1730 $ ? omg peoples are crazy! The worst part is that since this was the final auction price, there were two people willing to pay that much. It was a nice set for its time but it uses only basic, common pieces that could easily be bought new for $30-40 on Bricklink. Edited September 12, 2008 by CP5670 Quote

Man, i'd do anything to get my hands on one of them. CT Quote
