Franco Clarke Posted April 5 Posted April 5 For the first show of this season, Coventry Brick Festival, @berninhr and I decided to do the Battle of Genoa, from the revolutionary wars. This saw an outnumbered French fleet lose two ships due to poor sailing, but a stodgy British admiral fail to capitalise on this to secure a greater victory. It is mostly notable for being Nelson's first fleet action, so this is what we decided to focus on, HMS Agamemnon against the Ça Ira. @berninhr built the British ships, whilst I presented the French. Here is an overview, the crippled Ça Ira in front, with HMS Agamemnon raking, with HMS Inconstant bringing up the rear. This was our first attempt at a line of battle, something which is especially satisfying to put together. The same shot from ahead, showing of the new sails on the 64 gunner. HMS Agamemnon closes on the much larger Ça Ira. Nelson's skill allowed the British to inflict serious damage on the 80 gun French ship, whilst only suffering 13 injuries in return. Finally, here's a shot looking back down the table. The show went well, with it being simple to set up and take down, whilst providing an impressive spectacle. We hope to take this display to more shows this year. Further photographs of the different models can be found in these threads: HMS Agamemnon: [MOC] 64 gun 3rd rate ship of the line. Feuer Zug Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Great trio of ships in battle. There appears to be lots of details on your French ship. I like how you threw some parts on the table to simulate floating debris from the battle. Quote
Mr. Townsend Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Really strong display. The layout tells the story clearly and the ships look fantastic together. The sails and overall presentation give it a lot of presence on the table. Quote
GeoBrick Posted April 7 Posted April 7 That's a nice flotilla there. And I second Feuer's opinion about the debris floating between the ships. Quote
Franco Clarke Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 Glad you liked the display, the debris was inspired by the classic paintings from the era, which always have fallen masts and struggling sailors in the foreground. Quote
Sebeus I Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Nothing more fun than to put great battleships in a naval battle scene . Some flying cannonballs (using transp. parts) would be a nice addition I think. Quote
Franco Clarke Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago Good call, a rolling broadside on a two decker would look marvellous. Quote
