KK3D Posted Sunday at 01:07 AM Posted Sunday at 01:07 AM I was so excited when this set was announced as a builder because I knew how detailed the Slave One's design was, and when I initially built it, I was impressed, especially with the front of the ship. But when I really looked at the actual design, I was disappointed in how LEGO just gave up on the rear of the ship. One of the biggest parts of Star Wars is the attention to detail, and greebliing does it all. And the Slave One's rear is so distinctive and iconic that for it not to get the same level of dedication as the rest of the ship it deserves became a big letdown. I spent a good amount of time poking at this set, redesigning the rear to represent better what Jango's Starship looks like. I'm very proud of what I was able to pull off, considering this was without ordering pieces specifically for this build. It was important for me to create great detailing that expressed the design while still keeping the build structurally sound and not losing any of the functionality. BODY Unabody design for the area surrounding the windshield. Minimal gaps Filled in all the gaps under the windshield tiles. Added flat tiles along the side and filled the space between those tiles up to the bricks along the side of the windshield Smoother transition from the dark green rounded section to the white tiles along the side Rebuilt the section above the cockpit for a smoother transition to the windshield to match the real design better Flat tiles laid out to mimic the panel lines on the ship Tiled door REAR I used gray and dark gray pieces to better illustrate the outer edge of the oval up to the blue. Added more of the larger canister-style greeblings, all represented in dart gray. Added bent bar below dual engines. T-shaped element and the plate below with red markings are built out. Detailed greebling to fill in the gaps. Filling in as much space with gray to represent the interior more accurately More detailed bombay doors, with a second set for when they are opened WINGS Extended the wings outward while simultaneously giving more space to the wing-bars up to the body Wing flaps that move independently rear-facing vents on the inside of the wings Higher detailed greebling on the interior of the armpits. Adding the bar that goes from wing to wing, which is only in 3d models and in the movies INTERIOR Gave the lower floor a proper base that wasn't floating on techincs, giving it a flush floor from the front windshield to the added ladder in the back. Added a lower level with accessories. Bacta tank, food, greebling. Parallax effect with the ladder descending to the lower level MY FAVS In the armpit area, the little bar that floats from the body to the center Adding a reversed section to the wings to add detailing on both the top and bottom Adding the two red quarter circles to represent the red spots Inverting the transparent yellow engine parts into the tiled white. Giving it a more stacked look for the glowing exhaust Cross body bar from wing to wing to rotate with them I would love to see other builders' MODs as well, as I believe creativity thrives together. Let's make this a MOD thread for Jango Fett! Quote
