Hello All!

Perhaps cutting it close, but I want to try my hand at one of these contests. Hopefully I'll have more time to work these later today or tomorrow, but I'm thinking of doing a Drinking Bird and one of those...spinning planet things powered by magnets. I don't remember if they have an actual name but you'll get the idea in the second image below. Just prototyping the functions for now, keeping it simple with more weight/balance spinning. Maybe experimenting on using gear functions or a magnet system in the future could be fun but likely out of scope for my limited building time this go around.

Very creative project, I'm looking forward seeing how this turns out.

Welcome to EB and this TC in particular, always nice to see people taking part!

Thanks! I've been aware of Eurobricks, but for some reason I just haven't bothered to really check it out here. Looks neat and been enjoying going through this Technic section. Just need to remember to leave comments on stuff, since I can't be lazy and just give a Like.

Alright, I think I'm set on my pair!

Very clean design!
I was expecting the bird to really work, but I guess it would be too hard to do...
Maybe you could use those side knobs on the orbiter to actuate each of the 2 outermost rings ?

Thanks!

As for the bird, I tried a couple of experiments but couldn't get it to quite work. Plastic banging against plastic killed momentum and wasn't something I wanted in general, but rubber killed it even faster. I tried various solid and more hollow rubber against rubber for the beak hitting the cup, but it kept killing all momentum. If I had some rubber parts with air inside, maybe it would have had the bounce I wanted? Further testing required...and also I need to source some much older tires.

I actually did that for one of its earlier versions...That I forgot to record because I'm not used to doing WIP photos/videos. But I found hitting the frame more fun and gave it a better spin. Or at least seemed like better spinning to me, less restricted.
