Mindstorms MindCuber RI Rubik Solver

My son has built the MindCuber RI Rubik Solver for a school science project. It’s the first time we have used this Lego and the first time we’ve ever coded anything! 
 

We’ve followed the instructions of David Gilday here:

but we can’t get it fully working.
 

We’ve followed the instructions to the letter but once the code is installed the scanner moves forward and back once and the central motor then spins endlessly. 
 

Any help would be very much appreciated.
