The Mogholay are tactically swift, spiritually zealous, and culturally ascendant. Their warriors are mounted archers and sabre-wielders, famed for devastating raids. It can help inspire your builds or shape your stories. The ranking of the Focuses indicates what a Faction finds more important, i.e. the Focus that comes first is most important to a Faction. People and History The Moghalay Sultanate is made up of many different cultures over its vast expanse of territory that are ruled by a central dynasty. The core regions of the Empire are the lands around the capital from which the Mogholay people originate. With the decline of the Pyrite Empire, the power of Moghalay grew as the fledgling nation became united under the current dynasty of sultans. As Moghalay power spread and new territories were absorbed, the Moghalay developed a method of minimal intervention in the local societies that they ruled. With local cultures and traditions left largely intact, the Moghalay administrated their new and diverse territories by infiltrating the local ruling class through marriage alliances or substitution while at the same time introducing a common bureaucratic method to support the local rulers and ensure taxes were paid and levies supplied to the central government. Each administrative area is known as a satrapy and is ruled by a satrap. The system has worked well for the Moghalay who have been able to quickly expand their territory in such way. The Empire is famous both it's trade in rare spices and the more basic commodity of salt. Salt production is centered around the large inland lakes found in the core region of the Moghalay and the salt trade was the cornerstone of which Moghalay power was originally founded. Geography The vast expanse of the Mogholay Sultanate and its continent-spanning nature is reflected in the many varied biomes of the nation, which range from more arid, rocky and sandy tracts of land in the northern stretches to lush jungles in the far south and the interior of the Sultanate. The client states in the north, known as the Corsair Taifas, are especially considered near-inhospitable for those who are not used to the dry and hot climate. Example builds [Example MOC or troop build] - coming soon Real world inspiration and influences A vast Mughal (Indo-Persian) style empire whose territories span from Arabic type culture in the north-east through to a more Turkic and Persian type cultures in the centre and around the capital before moving down to more Indian/Pakistani style cultures in the south. Future equivalent in BOBS: Mokolei Empire, Subfactions Sub Factions are for all intents and purposes part of the Main Faction, but they offer the chance at playing a character of a distinct culture or subgroup of the Main Faction. As Sub Faction are mostly less strict in terms of uniform, the overall Faction uniform is of less importance here. What is important is that soldiers or armies of the Sub Factions still fly the main colors/flags of the Main Faction The Corsair Taifas As the Mogholay swept north in their fervour, there were some that bent the knee willingly - in exchange for a semblance of independence. These kingdoms are called the Taifas and are infamous for their corsairs that roam the seas in search of fame and treasure. Lay of the Land Political Ruler: Each Taifa is ruled by its own bey, or ruler Capital: Each Taifa has its own capital Real world inspiration and influences Northern African medieval states, such as the Barbary States and Egypt, and the city-states or kingdoms bordering the Red Sea Future equivalent in BOBS: Tellvok, Pan and Salleek El-Otayi Exclave A stretch of land inhabited by mystical folk from the far south of the world. While the Mogholay refer to them as Otayeen, they call themselves Lotii and have brought with them many advances in science and siege warfare. Dissidents of the faraway Lotus Empire, they seek new lives in the Sultanate. Lay of the Land Political Ruler: Council of Elders Capital: The Exclave is centered around Kahnabad Real world inspiration and influences While there is no 1:1 real-world equivalent, the El-Otayi can be seen as (Lotii) Ming Dynasty subjects having fled the Lotus Empire and pledged their swords and sciences to a more forgiven lord: the Mogholay Sultan. Want to join the Mogholay Sultanate and bask in wealth and glory? To sign up, post a picture of your signature figure, preferably accompanied by Mogholay formal flag colors. You are welcome to include a bit of a description as well. Your signature figure, or sigfig, will represent your character throughout your MOCs within Tales of Old (That does not mean that your sigfig has to be in every MOC you make). Although this is the “Green” faction, that does not mean that everyone should have a sand green-uniformed soldier as sigfig. Within Tales of Old you build your own story – for example, your sigfig could start out as a carpenter that decides to work on a ship. Quote
