evancelt Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 Kingdom of Corrington The Scholar Kingdom Once proud and unbending, Corrington staggers beneath the weight of defeat in the Long War. Its nobles squabble and question the king's rule openly, the border marches mutter of rebellion, and the king’s authority wanes. Dissatisfied nobles and defiant Taemric clans rally behind the king's nephew, who they see as a more worthy claimant that will bring back glory to the realm - and aid their cause along the way. Meanwhile, the ancient order of the Knights of Yeldo pursue their own mysterious goals, profiting from the absence of royal oversight. Sub Factions: The Taemric Marches | The Knights of Yeldo Heraldry Flags: Red Colors: Red (and white) Sigils: Rampant lions and lions * * For example. Faction colors are key. Lay of the Land Political Ruler: King Edmund III 'the Weak' Capital: Belson Government: Centralized semi-feudal monarchy Faction focus Faction Focus is a roleplaying instrument that helps indicate what a Faction finds important on a quick glance. It can help inspire your builds or shape your stories. The ranking of the Focuses indicates what a Faction finds more important, i.e. the Focus that comes first is most important to a Faction. People and History The Corlanders are a people who pride themselves on civilization and class above anything else. They look to further their lot in life through trade, and believe that order is more important than might, although they are not shy about utilizing might to establish order. Corrington currently lies in shambles, after its defeat in the Long War - a conflict that had its roots in a petty dynastic conflict, but soon spiraled out of control into a war of conquest. As part of its defeat, it had to cede its eastern provinces to Mardier, who had conquered them after joining the conflict on Oléon's side. For a long time however, Corrington's defeat was not in the air. With Oléon's forces spread thin throughout its territories, Corrington quickly gained the upper hand during the early years of the war. Disaster struck when Mardier entered the conflict and Corrington was forced to wage a two-front war. Soon thereafter, defeat was unavoidable. The War has left a blemish on the King's authority and the Marches which have always been a wild and hardly tamed place are looking to turn the situation to their advantage. Perhaps they could be free once more, like the kindred Isle of Tam? In pursuit of their goals, they have found allies in other dissatisfied nobles who are looking for a new king. One they might have found in the popular young nephew of the king. A successful commander during the Long War, perhaps he has what it takes to keep the Kingdom together. The Royal Family of Corrington (via @evancelt) Geography The mainland is mostly rolling hills with a small mountain chain running down the middle of the country. It is the northernmost country in Eastern Halos, and the winters in the North are often unbearable to many outsiders. Most of the freeholders grow potatoes, wheat, or cabbage, and raise livestock. Cows and pigs are plentiful, and the countryside is dotted with many small hamlets. However, the cities are bustling places that never sleep. The cities are well planned, kept clean, and order is maintained at all times. The largest city, and capital of the kingdom is Belson. Belson is home to one of the world’s foremost universities: Archeon College, which attracts students from across the known world. Example builds [Example MOC or troop build] Real world inspiration and influences Medieval England, and other minor influences that have been cited in BOBS such as Norway Future equivalent in BOBS: Corrington Subfactions Sub Factions are for all intents and purposes part of the Main Faction, but they offer the chance at playing a character of a distinct culture or subgroup of the Main Faction. As Sub Faction are mostly less strict in terms of uniform, the overall Faction uniform is of less importance here. What is important is that soldiers or armies of the Sub Factions still fly the main colors/flags of the Main Faction The Taemric Marches Nominally part of Corrington, the Taemric Marches have never been tamed. Its people are fiercely independent, bound more by custom than crown. With Corrington weakened, March-Lords may seek full sovereignty - and allies among the discontented. The Taemric Marches are known for its clan-based cultures and geographic remoteness. Situated along the northern shore of Corrington, it is a rainy and green place - infamous for its fog, bogs and rolling hills. The wild nature of its people and the harshness of life in the Marches is sometimes seen as backward by Corlanders living in the east and south - a sentiment that is far from the true facts. Lay of the Land Political Ruler: No single ruler; governed by March-Lords and clan councils Capital: None, though Caer Talwyn is most prominent city Real world inspiration and influences The Taemric Marches are based upon the Gaelic cultures of the British Isles, such as medieval Scotland, Wales, Cornwall and Ireland. But also places like Brittany and the Isle of Man amongst others. These cultural influences are evident in the architecture of the Taemrish. They are culturally related to the Isle of Tam, which in this timeline is still an independent island kingdom. Taemric Warriors (via @evancelt) The Knights of Yeldo Ruling from the island of Yeldo, the Knights are an artifact of decades past, before the Long War drained Corrington’s coffer and when the King answered Pyros’ call for help and ventured south against the Sultanate. While the Knights' bastions in the South have now largely fallen, the Knights still cling to small footholds. With the King's attention drawn to other internal matters, the Knights of Yeldo are mostly left to their own devices. It is rumored their are in search of fabled and ancient relics, to help them supposedly restore their former glory and power. Unlike most Corlanders, who take a scientific stance in life, the Knights of Yeldo are known to be more interested in the esoteric and mythical aspects of life. Lay of the Land Political Ruler: Grand Master, subservient to the Corrish King Capital: Island of Yeldo Real world inspiration and influences The Knights of Yeldo are based on several medieval knightly orders, primarily the Knights of Malta and the Knights Templar. This is reflected in the architecture of the Knights of Yeldo, which is a mixture of Middle-Eastern styles and typical western castles. Want to join the Kingdom of Corrington and bask in wealth and glory? To sign up, post a picture of your signature figure, preferably accompanied by Corrington formal flag colors. You are welcome to include a bit of a description as well. Your signature figure, or sigfig, will represent your character throughout your MOCs within Tales of Old (That does not mean that your sigfig has to be in every MOC you make). Although this is the “Red” faction, that does not mean that everyone should have a red-uniformed soldier as sigfig. Within Tales of Old you build your own story – for example, your sigfig could start out as a carpenter that decides to work on a ship. Quote

evancelt Posted October 4, 2025 Author Posted October 4, 2025 Duncan Brickleton, heir of Clan Brickleton of the Taemric Marshes, was born under grey skies and the long shadows of peat bogs. His childhood was shaped by the clang of smithing and the restless wind that sweeps over cattails. From his earliest days, he learned what it meant to bear responsibility—his father, Chief Ewan Brickleton, named him “Keeper of the Marsh Gate,” a title that meant more than just ceremonial pride. Duncan’s lean frame belies strength forged in boggy marches: he is deft in navigating treacherous paths, sharp of tongue when insulted, and ever-watchful for threats—be they wolves in the hills, rival clans’ raiders, or the encroachment of Corrington nobles who would see the Marches tamed. In the tradition of Taemric clans, loyalty is everything to Duncan. He is bound to kin by blood, bound to honour by oath, and bound to the land by birthright. He has spent long winters huddled around peat fires, listening to the elders’ stories—tales of past chiefs who defended the marshes, who held fast against Corrington’s taxes and demands. Duncan speaks the old Taemric tongue with his laughter, yet he also has learned the courtly speech of Belson when needs must—pragmatic, not prideful. He wields a claymore at his side, carved to bear the Brickleton stag sigil, and he practices archery across the rising mists until his arms ache. Now, with Corrington reeling from defeat after the Long War and the authority of King Edmund III weakened, Duncan stands at a threshold. He watches the March-Lords gathering in secret, sees disquiet among the folk at the edges of swamp and hill. Though young, he feels the pull of destiny: is he to remain simply the son of a chief, protector of his own, or step into a larger role, perhaps for all Taemric? There is fire in his heart—and a steel in his will. Whether he moves with diplomacy or blade, Duncan Brickleton knows that the old ways will not bend without leave. Quote
LegacyBuilder Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 Mortimer Studsbury, the bold, innovative, and pragmatic son of a very wealthy banker and a minor noblewoman. Though his father was a commoner elevated to the knighthood through his financial services to the crown, Mortimer was regaled since his youth of tales of ancestral chivalric deeds by his mother. Mortimer’s father yearned for his son to one day obtain what he only could grasp after- a place in Corrington nobility. Mortimer was therefore trained after the pattern of a noble, both in administration of the wealth of his family, and in the art of war. A veteran of the end of the Long War, Mortimer fought with honor, but could alas not single-handedly save his nation from defeat. The financial strain from the war was Mortimer’s father’s downfall, and before peace came the elder Studsbury passed away. Mortimer has spent his time since the peace reviving his family’s fortunes as well as maintaining a guard corps of Long War veterans who served with him. These men protect Studsbury assets and money transfers, but also quietly provide their employer a small private army in the event of future conflict. Mortimer Studsbury would like nothing more than to bring vengeance to those who brought defeat to his nation and caused his father’s demise, show the king his worth, and in turn be elevated to the social rank he has been raised to secure. LM71Blackbird Posted October 18, 2025 Posted October 18, 2025 Baron Philip Brickford Philip Brickford is a minor noble of Corrington. His father (Philip the Elder) was killed toward the end of the Long War, passing the lowest nobility title of baron to the younger Philip. The Barony with which he is now responsible for is located just south of the Northern Marches and east of the border with the Kingdom of Oleon. With Corrington's defeat in the Long War, this makes his small fief a turbulent land. His journey will begin as he returns from war and attempts to establish himself in his father's stead while talks of rebellion spread from all directions. Spoiler Quote

geoffrey_blockington Posted October 25, 2025 Posted October 25, 2025 (edited) Sir Geoffrey Blockington stands as a stalwart knight of the realm in the Kingdom of Corrington, a land once proud but now humbled in the wake of the Long War. He pledges his sword and his shield to the crown of King Edmund III “the Weak”, determined that the crown’s honour shall not fade in the twilight of defeat. In a kingdom where the royal voice grows faint and nobles whisper of revolt, Geoffrey takes his oath seriously: to uphold the king’s justice, defend every hamlet and city from chaos, and ensure that Corrington’s tradition of order and civilisation endures. In the rolling hills and grim marches of Corrington, Geoffrey has carved out his reputation—steadfast and resolute. He roams the frontier, rallies the common folk, and confronts the stirrings of rebellion in the borderlands. The March-Lords bristle, the Taemric clans gaze northward, and the shadow of rival claimants looms, but Geoffrey remains unflinching. He is a bulwark of red and white—Corrington’s colours—and his banner, marked by rampant lions, flies in the face of unrest. With sword in hand and unwavering loyalty in his heart, he reminds all that the kingdom may be battered, but its spirit is not broken. Yet Geoffrey’s service is more than martial. In the quiet halls of Belson, Corrington’s orderly capital, he takes his place among the lesser nobles and knights who believe the crown’s rule must be reinforced not only with steel, but with governance. He speaks plainly to the citizens of the cities, auditing taxes, ensuring fair trade, and rebuilding trust in the central monarchy. As a knight of the realm, he knows that the kingdom’s salvation lies as much in wise leadership as in battlefield triumph. In doing so, he offers hope that Corrington’s lecture on civilisation, class and the use of might to maintain order may yet flourish again in these uncertain times.
