Hello,

as most of you know, in 1990 the 9V motor 8720 was released, it followed the well known 4.5V motor 870 / 8700.

At that time, all Technic instructions had a section that showed how to motorize it. Either the A-model or the B-model (* see below).

Due to the change from 8700 to 8720, the instruction were upgraded.

Until now, I found both both variants for the following sets:

  • 8024, 8034, 8044 Universal Sets
  • 8854 Power Crane
  • 8862 Backhoe Grader
  • 8865 Test Car

For the following sets, I could not find versions that show motorizing with the newer 9V motor 8720:

  • 8832 Roadster / Mini Go-Kart
  • 8835 Forklift
  • 8842 Go-Kart
  • 8852 Robot
  • 8853 Exvacator
  • 8855 Prop Plane

Does anyone have an instruction book (or at least pictures / scans) for one of these sets, that show the 9V motor as an upgrade option?

I already searched the usual online resources, but it seems that they have all copied the scans from each other, so you find the same scans everywhere...

(*) no rule without exception. For the pneumatic Forklift 8843, there are two different version of the instructions.
The first version shows a motorized "C"-model, while the second version dropped the C-model and shows only A- und B-models.

I purchased 8832 when it first came out (1988) and have purchased three more copies off eBay in the last 15 years, these have all had the same instructions.

Given that 8720 came out in 1990, and this was a number of years after these sets were released, I am not sure if / why TLG would have gone back and made official instructions for these older sets, especially the smaller ones, such as 8832 and 8835.

Well, my list refers to sets that were shown in the 1990 catalog.

Meanwhile, the 9V instruction versions for 8034 and 8835 have appeared. So imho, it is very likely, that the sets that were still in production in 1990, but released before 1990, got this change.
