maiq the liar Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 So, anyway...My display is in the mudroom, particularly up by the walls. problem is, i'm propably the only one who goes in the mudroom so spiders have started to move in. How can i get rid of them? Quote
Skinny Boy Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Hmmmm, what kinda size? I recently came into posession of a spider catcher that works, sorta well, but only on fairly big spiders. I have more of a problem with moths... filthy creatures. BTW What is a mudroom? Quote
xenologer Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Yay spiders what kind are they? I hate having them leave webs all over my displays too. Seem to not be too much an issue since I've been diligent about killing any of them I see in my room. Quote
AgentRick Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Well, you could try to pull a Raccoon city and set up walls around it and cover it up when not in use with a sheet, so the spiders don't get in. Quote
Hinckley Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I use those glue boards. They work very well. Put them along the wall under your display table... I've moved this thread to General Discussion, since it's not necessarily just for Town lovers. Quote
JimBee Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I'd just kill them whenever they invade, but if you have a huge amount of the, spray the place with poison or bugspray. By the way, SKinny Boy, a mud room is usually a room at the entrance to a dwelling where you take your shoes off. I think. Quote
Tacitus Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Keep the room clean as much as possible. Vacuum the webs as soon as you see them to keep the spiders from nesting. Quote

Actually, the floor is the display table. more room that way. Quote

You take your shoes off in the foyer. The mud room typically separates the garage from the rest of the house, or is between the back door of the house and the laundry room... Quote
Sandy Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 You should try cleaning every once in a while... Such typical men here, seeking solutions to a simple problem from bombs, toxins and technical gadgets. Quote

Those are the 3 solutions comes to a mans mind first for any problem. Then we are often talked into an other direction by a female -Ras- Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 You should try cleaning every once in a while... Such typical men here, seeking solutions to a simple problem from bombs, toxins and technical gadgets. Women use far to much logic. I personally would go with the technical gadget myself, and as a last resort I would use bug spray until a heavy smog lingers above my Lego town! Quote
legotrainfan Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) I wouldn't recommend using chemistry. Wouldn't want any chemistry in my rooms, though I have to admit I use some to drive mosquitoes away; otherwise I couldn't sleep all night. Anyway, I'd also go for cleaning the room or covering your models with something. Since my layout is on the floor, I have a problem with slaters. Not a severe one, though. I always find some dead slaters lying around or one or two walking around. I'm wondering why. The room is in the cellar, but it has a wooden floor and it is absolutely dry. So it ain't surprising that the slaters all die sooner or later, but I'm wondering how they actually get into that room. Edited August 30, 2008 by legotrainfan Quote
Matn Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I don't have that much spiders in my room, but when I see one I just grap it and I put it outside. They are handy to keep the flies away, but I don't have flies in my room, so. And yes, if you clean your room once in a while, you won't have spiders. Quote
Millacol88 Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Hmmm. I would most likely just kill them when I see them, and if it becomes a huge problem, like hinckley said that sticky paper stuff works well for flys, spiders, and other insects. Quote
rriggs Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) I cover my Lego with Tesco Value bed sheets. Since my layout is on the floor, I have a problem with slaters. Not a severe one, though. maiq the liar Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 Must be a kind of spider. at least it's not a brown recluse! (However, there's one chilling in our basement window) (Don't worry, but despite the picture the recluse itself is on the outside part of the window. it has no way in.) Quote
legotrainfan Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 What's a slater? A wood-louse. Small grey creatures with many feet. They have a grey carapace. These animals can usually be found in shadowy and damp places such as damp cellars and under stones. Click here if it's still not clear to you. Quote
JimBee Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 You take your shoes off in the foyer. The mud room typically separates the garage from the rest of the house, or is between the back door of the house and the laundry room... Stop correcting me! I knew it was at the back door. Anyways, Sandy, you're probably right. Cleaning would be the simplest solution, but but poison is easier! Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 YOU HAVE A BROWN RECLUSE LIVING NEAR YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!!! KILL IT FAST! Those things are as lethal as a black widow, no joke! As for the basic spider problem, you might want to use your LEGO more often. More activity will keep them away. Or get the layout off the floor. Wow, a brown recluse, those things are nasty! Quote
Stauder Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Those things are as lethal as a black widow, no joke! Get your facts right dammit. They are lethal, but not as lethal as a black widow. Rarely, the bite may also produce a systemic condition with occasional fatalities. Most fatalities are in children under 7 [8] or those with a weaker than normal immune system. Also, there seems to be a great lack of spiders in my room, so Stauder Quote
Section8 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 You might want to see how they're getting in and seal that place off. The effectiveness of this approach usually depends on the type and age of dwelling. A drafty door or window is the most obvious place, but places you might overlook is a drain or a vent fan that doesn't get used very often. Quote
maiq the liar Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) It's propably that screen door...but if my cousins come over (you know how 4-10 year olds are with lego...), i'll propably be keeping the main door locked, so i'll need it. Edited August 31, 2008 by maiq the liar Quote
