Brickstone_City Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Hi, In January 2024, Lego released the first sets containing parts featuring a new color - "Reddish Orange". This sparked my interest, as classic ÖBB locomotives from the second half of the 20th century often were painted in "Blutorange" - "blood orange". Of course it is not easy to collect standard parts in a recently released color. Lastly, I scraped together enough this spring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu0YHSGpdN0 ÖBB class 1042 first: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ÖBB_Class_1042 I started taking photos in the early 2000s, when engines from number 1042.531 onwards had been converted to class 1142 with push-pull capabilities. Night train from Italy, I will show the cars here as well. Decals have not been attached to most of the newer stuff yet. All cars might be converted to 8w, the one behind the 1042 already is wider. The catenary wire is 3D printed bought from "Train-Brix.de", the ÖBB concrete masts are my construction. I built a 1042 from number .531 with cab corner windows which later were removed. The center of the roof can be picked up, not attached to studs. The train control part is a printed tile from Trixbrix - of course not authentic, I might add more details to the cab. The side row of grilles and windows is built studs on the side. Since there are no bricks modified in reddish orange, it is held by an interior structure. The roundness was partially achieved using small Technic L-shaped liftarms. Traction is the biggest challenge of the engine as the bogies are so long only the inner axles of two train motors are driven. The clacking in the first video scene are the flippers - I removed them for the rest of the runs. ;-) 1x8 plates were the cheapest way to build the bulk of the loco, bricks in reddish orange were hardly available. 1x6 bricks have been recently released in two "Bluey" set. More soon :0) Quote
Feuer Zug Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Wonderful work on these classic ÖBB locomotives. Getting the blood orange color correct must have been a pain. I like the catenary as well. Overall, this presents a coherent scene, nicely done. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Wow, that's great work collecting all those parts in a rare color and making an excellent model with the limited palette. I bet all of those plates helps with the weight on the drive wheels Quote
L-Gauger Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Incredible work, @Brickstone_City! I like the fact that your build doesn't make the constraints of the reddish orange color obvious, rather your part choices all look as though they'd be a natural first choice regardless of color. This is definitely a masterpiece of a build! Quote
