Castle Construction Prenmôr Hops Farm As the castle began to take shape on the rocky plateau overlooking the ocean and river, the small community of Prenmôr began to draw some attention. No doubt aided by the dealings of Ambassador Gisela, the town started to take on a reputation as a place of refuge where opportunity flourished. The large brewery operating in the up and coming castle required a significant amount of wheat, oats, and hops, and a few families had moved to Prenmôr to farm there. One of these recent additions was the family of Helena Eichsdottir, the strong-willed daughter of a Mitgardian Jarl, who had come of age and found opportunities for women in her father's tribe lacking, so had moved to northern Avalonia in the foothills of the mountains on the Mitgardian border. She had learned some harsh life lessons about self-sufficiency, but with this came wisdom, and after a time in the small community there, love. After starting a family, Helena decided that the dry, cold mountainous foothills did not provide the abundance she wanted for her family, so she sought a warmer climate more conducive to farming. After meeting Lady Gwenllian at the large concert in Prenmôr the previous year, she had moved her family there in the spring. With the help of the local community, they had built a modest house, and now were enjoying the more mild coastal weather, watching their hops grow faster than they had ever seen in the mountains. The vines produced bright green hops that were plucked off the vine by local workers and collected in large bins, backpacks, and sacks. These were then taken to the castle under construction at the top of the hill and were there traded for supplies, other foodstuffs, steel tools from Sven's forge and occasional coin. Coin was sparse in Prenmôr, but it was quickly growing as the community expanded and grew more ties to the neighboring villages. Spoiler This was a fun collab with @Kai NRG. I wanted to build a hops farm for Prenmôr, and Kai jumped in with the house design. Kai left town, and I finished up some details on the roof, then played with a few designs for the hops until I settled on what I had based on large quantities of various plant and olive pieces on the PAB walls over the years. This should contribute to the next phase of the HSS settlement index for Prenmôr, so I will update that shortly. C&C welcome! Edited June 24 by Grover Quote
zoth33 Posted June 19 Posted June 19 I really like the house design. The colors are great, and the stone archway is fantastic. The way you did the hops looks very authentic nice work. Quote

It's great to see a non-GoH member looking through our builds! @Kai NRG picked out the dark green, and then we played with reddish brown, dark brown, and tried a couple of different things for the roof, but that tan really was a nice contrast. Photographing it was a mess, as I needed a spotlight on the dark colors to make them pop, but it was worth it. I added the sand and dark green awning for some Avalonian colors. And thanks on the hops! It was more of a challenge than I thought initially, since I had to find enough plant pieces available in colors that I had to make them work. Those stem plant pieces only come in a couple of colors at the moment, and the olive looked better than the bright green they are also in, so that choice was made for me. The lime green of the hops was a nice contrast, and I was pleased how well it imitated the real hops plants. My only gripe was getting them on that flexible line. That was kind of.a hassle, and if I move the MOC a bunch to transport it, a few pop off the tether on the bottom, but they pop on just as easily, so it's not too bad. Thanks again! Quote

T-86(swebrickLUG) Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Sweet color-palette for this one @Grover you have created a lively scene going on here without it being clustered due to the (fairly small) footprint. The arch-doorway is supercool and the solution for the hops is nice too. The thatched roof is a prefect choice for this one and your solution using zipline for the hops work very well! A minor “critique” is that I feel that the house could’ve been slightly larger to better fit the cool doorway, but might just be me. Thanks again for keeping GoH alive and for the inspiring builds you put on here! Quote
Kai NRG Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Great to see this finished off, really nice choice of colors to complement the house and each other. It's a really warm, peaceful scene with enough activity going on to make it interesting. Fun stuff. Quote
SimWies Posted June 21 Posted June 21 What a lovely build! Great choice of color-palette @Grover and you did a really great job with the vines I also love the size and shape of the base, it has quite a natural feel to it and again perfect color-choice. Quote
Elysiumfountain Posted June 22 Posted June 22 The stone archway on the house is FANTASTIC! I think that's one of my favorite parts. Terrain colors really work well too. Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Beautiful moc and such a peaceful one! I love the green color for the half-timbered house. That's a color we do not see very often used for this, but it works great together with the brown timbers and thatched roof. And I very much like how all the minifigs have their work to do, like feeding the animals, carying water, pick the hops. Great moc all around! Quote

Thanks again for keeping GoH alive and for the inspiring builds you put on here! Credit to @Kai NRG for the stone archway. We were a little limited on size for the house based on the dark brown color choice, since I don't have a ton of it (despite intentionally trying to collect it). I have quite a few of a couple of pieces, but not a ton of big plates, so it was kind of hit and miss. I think that given more parts and maybe a bit more time it could have been a bit larger. Thank you on the roof! We spent some time choosing the roof color and I had to order those pieces in tan. Getting the angles and the connection was tough, but I was pleased with how it turned out. The hops were a bit tricky, but I was happy with how the olive worked with the nougat and dark oranges, and ultimately that line worked well too! That dark green is the guild color for Avalonia, so along with the sand green awning accents, we tried to tie the guild colors in, and we were happy with how they turned out with the tan roof. The minis were a lot of fun. I tried to imply that there was a small family of three plus two farm hands... see if you can guess who is who! Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted June 23 Posted June 23 What a lovelyl country scene! I like how you made the hop plant and the roof of the house. Quote
domik Posted June 24 Posted June 24 I can't describe how I liked the story with the pictures! Such a nice scene and the house, espacially the roof. What are those tan pieces on it? Quote

The hops plant kind of made itself through the availability of the various plant pieces in specific colors, but it still took some experimentation, so I'm glad it looks good! As for the roof of the house, that took some doing. Quite a few angles and rebuilds here and there, and that funny tooth piece at the peak was the best I could do. I filled in a few holes with those little stem pieces too. I was pleased how the dark tan wolverine claws could look like either discolored roofing or maybe errant pine needles. 18 hours ago, KpopQueen said: Nice desing :) Thank you! 16 hours ago, domik said: I can't describe how I liked the story with the pictures! I think one of the things I love most about the Guilds of Historica is the collaborative story telling atmosphere here. We don't have a 'turn' based RPG or anything, but all the characters and scenes are interconnected and sometimes interact. Couple that with the ability to build as much or as little as you have time for, and I really like the pace. If you are ever interested in that kind of building, come check out the Guilds! We are getting ready to gear up for a new book in our storyline. As for the roof, the majority is built from set 10322 the Medieval Town Square, and it's part # 27261. I didn't have any in tan, so I ordered some from Pick a brick on Lego. There's also some filler of 10187 (the dark tan wolverine claws), the tan 49668 plate with tooth at the peak, and some 68211 stems in tan to fill holes. Glad you liked the roof! Quote
MAB Posted June 25 Posted June 25 The hops and the frames have come out really well, the light green colour really pops like the real thing. Maybe something is missing - there must be a barrel of beer hidden somewhere! Quote

Ecclesiastes Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Nice little scene, filled with details. Love the hanging vines and I like how you've solved the gaps in the roofs, clever choice. I can also appreciate the use of those old castle torsos, still not outdated. Simple but effective! Also, nice new hat! Quote
LordDan Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Very nice build, perfectly Avalonian! I really like the dark green and tan color scheme for the building, and the vibe fields look great! Like Ecclesiastes said the classic forest man and majisto torsos work well for the field workers too! Quote
