Hewman Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 OK, so by now we've probably all heard the space police rumours. So I was wondering what are peoples favourite sets from the two Space Police themes? Which is your favourite of the two versions of Space Police. I guess I should get the ball rolling. I definitely prefer the Space Police 1 theme. the main reason is the figs, being a classic space nut, any fig that resembles them gets my approval, also I just don't see anything menacing or bad in the Blacktron 2 figs used in Space Police 2. As for favourite sets, mine is the light and sound set 6781 SP Striker. Although of the large ships from the two space police themes, I prefer the 6984 Galactic mediator from space police 2 rather than the 6986 mission commander from space police 1 that appeared too back heavy to me. Algernon Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) Note that I don't actually own Space Police and all of my opinions are derived from Brickset. Personally... I think they both have their merits. Space Police 2 had a slightly better main cruiser as well as the Solar Snooper, but Space Police 1 had the Spy-Trak 1... Overall, I'd probably have to go with Space Police 2. The designs were more consistently decent. But I like Space Police 1's color scheme better, so it's a tough choice. My favorite set is probably the Spy-Trak 1. Edited August 20, 2008 by Algernon Quote
snefroe Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 the striker is the best set of both themes, however, i always loved the big ships of both themes too. I know, they don't look as smashing as the older classic space ships, but they're both well designed and offered a great range of parts. the problem with both themes, imo, was a lack of a great space station... Loooooove the rebel hunter too! Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I only had sets from space police II but the Spy Trak 1 looked cool. my fav sets were 6897: Rebel Hunter and 6852: Sonar Security Quote
BerndDasBrot Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) i prefer space police II. IMHO SPI is as good as SPII, but I (nearly) don't have any SPI sets. EDIT: and of course: I love the SPII color theme. Edited August 20, 2008 by BerndDasBrot Quote
CP5670 Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) As for favourite sets, mine is the light and sound set 6781 SP Striker.Although of the large ships from the two space police themes, I prefer the 6984 Galactic mediator from space police 2 rather than the 6986 mission commander from space police 1 that appeared too back heavy to me. I was going to bring up the same sets when I saw the thread title. The SP Striker is actually my favorite space model of any theme, including classic space. Between the themes as a whole, I would give a slight edge to SP1, mainly for their much nicer Space Lockup jail cells with their laser bars. As the 1989 US/Canada Lego catalog says, "you can't have a Space Police without a Space Lockup." I slightly prefer that color scheme too. However, SP2 had uniformly good sets while the SP1 ones were more hit-or-miss. I thought the Mission Commander was fairly disappointing compared to the smaller SP1 sets, although it's an ideal parts pack for those half-octagon panels. I also like the SP2 minifigs better. It was the first theme to have a lot of fine details on the torsos as well as the first to have a special commander minifig, while the SP1 guys are basically the same as the Futuron ones. One odd thing about both themes is that all of their ships are lacking something important. The SP1 ships have no engines to speak of while the SP2 ships are poorly armed, with only two small red lasers around the cockpit. Edited August 20, 2008 by CP5670 Quote
Iron Moose Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Space Police I means Blacktron I. And Blacktron I means AWESOME. That being said, the Rebel Hunter is a really nice piece of engineering, and while the Mission Commander looks way cooler than the Galactic Mediator, the GM is much more spacious and stable... but SPI *did* have some semblance of a Base... tough call, though!
