I'm trying to make a helicopter out of technic set 42077.

This is my first technic set, and also my first MOC, so that's not an easy task, as I'm trying to make it as compact as possible, without impacting stability.

Here are pics of what I've tried so far: https://imgur.com/a/Et9YPGN

  • Collective would be achieved by moving up and down the red axle.
  • Cyclic (forward/backward) would work by pulling/pushing the gray axle (the gray piece rotates around this axle).
  • Cyclic (left/right) would be achieved by rotating the yellow axle.

As an inspiration and starting point, I've used the following resources:

I have already used a few parts for the tail rotor and top part of the swashplate, so I have only two 2739a left.

On the other hand, I have not used any of the 57515, so I can use all 4 if that can bring some improvements.

Looking forward to getting some feedback!

A tricky challenge indeed given the pieces you're limited to. The very first Technic helicopter set 852 archives a swash plate of sorts using no specialised parts, though it can only do collective control, and uses gravity to keep the top half of the swash plate resting on the bottom half.

Yeah, I know, but I like a good challenge, and I’m passionate about helicopters!

I know the 852, it’s truly amazing, one of the best Lego helicopters I’ve seen.

i have spent weeks looking at helicopters, and I think it’s doable, even with the limited amount of specialized parts. Even pattspat helicopter (land Rover defender MOC => https://imgur.com/gallery/42110-land-rover-b-model-helicopter-5sYxvzE) doesn’t use that much parts. Steph77 has also shared some pretty compact swashplates, that barely used specialized parts. There’s a lot of work ahead, but it sounds very exciting!
