Morgan19 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 (edited) Trying something new here... I'm really enjoying creating custom decals and stickers but often get frustrated with how crappy the decals actually print out with the equipment I have one hand. While working on my recent scooter shop MOCs, I tried something new by taking the decals I was thinking about using and Photoshopping them onto a photo of the MOC: sort of a test to see how they'd look on the models before actually printing and using them. I really liked the immediacy of the process and being able to make adjustments on the fly before committing to a design. It occurred to me that I could do the same thing with minifigures, without having to brasso a torso and then possibly not be happy with the results. PSPguy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 They are really good but you have a poor choice of head for Yuna. She looks like a transvestite. Quote
Morgan19 Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 To each their own, but I disagree. Just because it's originally a male head doesn't mean it can't have other uses– I often use that head for females that I don't want to have scowls or heavy makeup, since fleshy female heads (hmm...) are currently somewhat limited. m19 Quote
SirNadroj Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Oh man, these are pretty darn nice. I'm generally not a huge fan of too much detailing on decals (simple is generally good), but these look really nice. Also haven't seen many leg decals like those. Very nice. And I mean very nice. What kind of decals would you use? Quote
Morgan19 Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 Yeah, for better or worse I do love me some details. As for printing them out, well that's the sticker (no pun intended)... The regular white matte decal paper always ends up looking pretty ratty off my printer (a fairly good HP 3700) and waterslide's out since I can't print white. Until I can find some full-sheet glossy white decal paper, these are going to stay completely virtual. m19 Quote

You could always ask Kam or Vidgamer838 (on flickr) to print some waterslide ones out for you. [They both have the same printer! ] Quote
tin7_creations Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 These are really good. But you've got to change the Yuna head, it just doesn't work. I like how you use photoshop to try out the decals, I'll do that for my figs too, you've got to get me a tutorial or something. Quote
Morgan19 Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 First post's been updated with some new ones. m19 Quote
tin7_creations Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I love the new ones, they're really accurate too. Love the decals, great work. Quote
Armothe Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 This is a very effective way of previwing your minifigs - great work! And the designs are truly top-notch. I'm a big fan of adding gradients/shading so I naturally love these minifigs of yours. -A Quote
Manta Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Great detail, I love the shading on the decals. I wish I had the stuff to make some of those. Quote
Sandy Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 OMG OMG OMG!!! These figs are like a dream come true to me! I'm a total Final Fanatic, and I simply adore what you've created! There's even my alltime favorite character Balthier up there! The shading and the vibrant colors really make the figs look like the real things. The day when LEGO will input such skill and detail into their minifigs will truly be a joyous one! Thanks for the absolute treat! Quote
Morgan19 Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 (edited) Small update to the first post: Lulu from FF10 and Yuna (Songstress) from FFX-2. m19 Edited August 6, 2008 by Morgan19 Quote
Cyclone Titan Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Wow, those figs are absolutely astonishing. And I especially like Ashe and Balthier; maybe because XII is the only Final Fantasy game I have...I know its buried somewhere. CT Quote
