Fenghuang0296 Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 (edited) Hey all! I’ve decided I’m sick of having all my spaceships (SW and otherwise - the ‘otherwise’ includes some MODs of Ninjago sets, Marvel’s GotG stuff, the XL-15 from Lightyear and even a few TLM2 ships, mostly arranged into factions based on colour scheme) on tables and shelves and landing pads. I’ve got a big empty wall in my LEGO room so I’m working on hanging at least some of them up and making a big, vertical fleet battle scene. Has anyone else done something similar or can point me to people who have? I’m looking for inspiration and design notes for how to arrange everything so that it really looks dynamic. Please advise! EDIT: Have updated the title of this thread since I haven’t gotten any suggestions but want to keep sharing my progress. Edited July 9, 2024 by Fenghuang0296 Quote
Fenghuang0296 Posted June 29, 2024 Author Posted June 29, 2024 (edited) Okay, no takers. I’m surprised, with how many spaceships LEGO pumps out I’d have thought fleet battle displays would be all the range. What, are y’all just lining your spaceships up on shelves? Anyway, thought I’d share what I’ve done so far! As I mentioned in my first post, this isn’t all necessarily Star Wars. It’s a clash between the forces of Babylon Sector Patrol, the navy of my LEGO city, and the Last Order, my homebrew imperial remnant that I created back when I played Factions. Way back in 2019, the TLM2 Systar Spaceship was going for 60% off so I bought like five to form the basis of my fleet, and I’m finally putting them to good use. Other noteworthy inclusions are the Ninjago Hydro Bounty and ShuriCopter repurposed into a battlecruiser and heavy cruiser respectively, and Mei’s Dragon Horse Jet and the Lightyear XL-15 as escort-class ships. And don’t forget my repainted Gauntlet-class Mandalorian Starfighter, flying BSP colours! On the opposing side, the TIE fighters are immediately recognisable, as is my modified Gideon’s Light Cruiser (with an upgraded bridge that seats three minifigures!) and the Eclipse Fighter, which I managed to snag preowned a couple of years back. I’m looking forward to getting and adding more ships to this display, the currently available TIE Interceptor and Bomber are next on the list so that the Last Order will have a bit more of a fighting chance. Maybe Maul’s Infiltrator too? Also, yes, this is a Jedi riding a dragon and fighting a Sith with a robot dragon. I love LEGO. (Jedi girl here is also Club President of the Dragon Spotters!) SteveOC Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Nice idea! Paint or cover the wall black and stick some rocks on it for an asteroid field effect. Quote
Monkeyulize Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 I would suggest using midi or micro scale ships to give a real sense of scale. I'd like to do something similar to this, but maybe hung from the ceiling for a fully three dimensional view. Quote
Fenghuang0296 Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 I’m back with another update, to celebrate a lucky find; I managed to add Kylo Ren’s TIE Silencer to my collection! It. Wow. It’s actually massive. I put it in the best spot I could find, posed in battle against the Apostrophe, but it only barely fits. I might have to come up with something else to display it . . Other additions include the TIE Interceptor and Fang Fighter double pack, backing up their respective factions. The Fang Fighter and a small jet I had left over from Ninjago: Prime Empire are elevated off the wall with different techniques I’m experimenting with. There were a couple of incidents of things falling off the wall. Enough said. The jet doesn’t really fit with the rest of the B-SPACE fleet (that’s Babylon Sector Patrol Aerial Combat Exemplars) though. It probably won’t stay. I also managed to get my hands on a second TIE Fighter! Which isn’t special but good for bulking up the fleet. And I tossed in Green Lantern on his way to help Captain Marvel. Because that’s what LEGO lets me do and I have no reason not to. :P I might need to get a better camera if I’m gonna keep doing this . . Quote
