Creating a "marathon" banner/marquee

Hi there,

I am wanting to create a "start" banner for a running race of minifigs and wondered the best way to do this? I have some circular plates with letters on which I am thinking of attaching to the top banner. I guess I would need some type of pole either side, but was thinking of using girders.

You could then use a combination of round brick with axle holes, along with pins with studs to give you a purchase point for your letter tiles.
