Cyclone Titan Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 From the new LEGO Club magazine: "CLONE WARS MIDNIGHT MADNESS Check out Midnight Madness at Toys R Us. Doors open at 12:00 am July 26th in select Toys R Us locations." Thats tonight!!! I checked the website and you can get the new LEGOs! And, you can get free stuff, like a holographic General Grevious figurine and some other things! Seems cool, no? Also, delete this if it has been posted already. CT Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I just got home, and midnight is in about 15 minutes. I rode past the TRU on Golf Rd. in Schaumburg and there were about 50 people out front...I saw a Darth Vader, couple Jedi, and a bunch of kids swingin' lightsabers around. Looked like they were all havin fun. I chose not to go though because I need to be at work in the morning and 6 of the 8 new SW sets will be available then. Later! Quote
AFOL SF Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Same here... I opt not to go this time although I've been to the first 2 Midnight Madness. I'll just pass by the Lego store tomorrow morning. Hoping to see the new sets. Quote
bamaker Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 (edited) I just got back from the Midnight Madness at the Plano, TX, TRU. There were about 200 people in line, and everyone behaved very well. Didn't see any fights or scuffles break out over the Hasbro or LEGO items. I got there about 3 or 4 minutes before midnight and so I got in at the very end of the line. By the time I got in the store a lot of the big dollar Hasbro items were gone, but there were plenty of LEGO sets to go around -- all set out on pallets in the front area of the store. I grabbed the RGS, the Twilight, V-19 Torrent Fighter, and a couple of the HSDroid sets. I didn't see any prices visible, so I tracked down a store associate and had him scan each set. The RGS clocked in @ $129.99, the Twilight @ $99.99, the V-19 @ $59.99, and the HSDroid set @ $34.99! Wha....?!? I knew LEGO was going up in price, but all of those (except the V-19) are about $10-$15 higher than I anticipated them being. Everything I had read or seen said the RGS would be $119.99 and the Twilight would be $89.99, and there was speculation that the HSDroid would be $19.99. I put back the Twilight and 1 HSDroid set. I went ahead and got the RGS w/ a 20%-off-any-1-item coupon that I received in the mail (for being a loyal customer of TRU); then purchased the V-19 Fighter and 1 HSDroid set, both at full price. I didn't plan on getting the AT-TE tonight; I'll pick it up in the coming weeks (I later found the price tags, and it's marked $89.99). Anyway, I couldn't believe the Twilight was $99.99 and I may return the HSDroid set ... $34.99 for a 200 pc. set! Crazy! Still, I had a good time, and it's always great to see so many Star Wars fans. There were also a lot of moms and children at the store -- not just a bunch of the stereotypical living-in-mom's-basement geeks (though I did see 1 or 2 of those guys there, too). Oky Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 (edited) Like some of you, I chose not to go. It was probably fun, but I wouldn't have bought anything since I totally knew the sets would be overpriced (stupid, greedy TRU! ). Besides, I probably couldn't have gotten a ride anyway. What I'll do is I'll go to the Lego Retail Store in Downtown Disney tomorrow (I live 15 min. away from it, yay for me! ) and buy the sets at the normal price and with 10% off using my Disneyland annual pass (yay 4 me again! ). I'll go there around 1 o'clock so that I can participate in the clone building contest and take home an extra free, new clone! I just hope they will have the HSD and Saber Tank, otherwise I'll have to stop by TRU on the way home after all. Anyone having similar plans? Edited July 26, 2008 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote

If yes, what is your record? And for me, I don't have plans like that because there are no TRU or WAL-MART near of me, there are no Lego stores in Canada so I'll buy the republic gunship in a few days in a Renaud-Bray store and I'll see for the rest. Fatespuppet Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I dropped by the MM at one of my local TRUs and was surprised to see only about 100 people there. I was also surprised to see how woefully understocked the TRU was. I abhor lines so I sat in my car until the line was gone and then wandered in. It was about 12:05 and by that point almost every action figure was gone. All the large vehicles were gone and there were a LOT of people grumpily leaving. The Lego section was filled with the previously released sets like the Republic Cruiser and there were no price tags on anything. I saw 4 or 5 people with RGSs and no more. There were at least 10 AT TEs on the shelf by the time I got there though. Without price tags I felt worried since I know TRUs tendency to exagerate prices. Instead I picked up a Hoth Base and X-wing People were also looking at me funny because I also got a Batman/Joker Ice Cream truck set that was 20% off. All in all it was interesting to see how horribly understocked TRU was. Now that I see the prices I'm glad I held off on those sets. I'll pick them up from Lego or my local Target/Walmart. Adding 10 bucks to the prices of every set is horrible. Quote

Fatespuppet Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Did you go to the one in Cary or Winston-Salem? Winston. It was funny to see how many people had trouble counting to 12(the limit for SWs products). I was finding discarded action figures all over the store hidden amongst the puzzles and board games and other sections. They had probably 4 or 5 more Hoth Bases when I left, but no more X-wings. WesternOutlaw Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I visited last night around 11:30 and waitied in a line of about 50 people. Once inside, most were disappointed in the fact that an exclusive TRU Grievous fig for SW purchases over $30 would not be given out until Sunday. Each person who walked in the door received a free "Build Your Empire" TCG Game Pack with 6 game cards. No other freebies were distributed. Aside from all the latest SW figs and numerous CW Lego sets at $5 - $10 more than retail (plus the Hoth set), the night was very uneventful. I was told by a TRU employee a few days before the event that they would have raffles, contests, and other fun things. None of this occured. I did pick up a few of the new SW Galactic Heroes and an overpriced Magna Guard Starfighter (that I will probably take back Sunday), but overall, this event was really disappointing. I regret staying up past my bed time to participate. While in line, I was talking to a few older collectors who have created SW shrines in their houses and had seriously considered naming their children after SW characters. I was thinking, I'm glad I'm not a heavy SW collector anymore, People, get a life! There's more important things in life, like Lego. Quote

Yeah, Pepper and Johnny are better names to call your kids than Yoda or Chewbacca! :skull: Quote
Dovchenko Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Great, and I'm really glad everyone had... fun? No seriously... what kind of an event was this? A mistake obviously. Like I'm reading here, few people really enjoyed it and many left disappointed. I heard some people want to bring back their sets too. I'm glad I'm skipping out on Clone Wars and taking the Death Star. No offence... I'd rather spend 500$ on something HUGE rather than a bunch of smaller things. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I went back to my local TRU today (Sunday) to take back the Magna Guard SF and pick up an exclusive Grievous fig. TRU is selling the Exclusive Grievous fig for $10 (USD), while supplies last; or giving them away free with Clone War purchase greater than $30. The Lego poster is also being sold for $10 or free with Lego SW purchases greater than >$30. For those of you wanting to see the Grievous exclusive, here's a few pictures: If I end up buying any of the Clone War Lego sets, I'll do so at Target or Walmart since their price is suggested retail. I'm really surprised to see TRU charging more for their Lego. Quote
Fatespuppet Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I'm not surprised to see TRU has higher prices. It's the level of increase that is amazing. It looks to be a flat 10 dollars across the board. If you bought every set at TRU it would cost you so much more then buying at your local Target or Walmart(or even S@H with shipping). What's sad is that you could buy the 10 dollar exclusive fig and then your legos at another store and break even. I'm used to seeing TRU at 2 or 3 dollars higher and I'm often willing to pay that for the good selection and the lack of dealing with the Walmart crowd, but 10 dollars per set is unthinkable. Hooray for the local Tarjay that had the RGS in stock last night at regular retail price. Quote
