Hey all,

I was thinking about the upcoming Clone Wars sets, and I wondered if TRU and the other stores will take down their old Star Wars display models to set up the Clone Wars models.

Anyway, what I was wondering was, what do the stores do with the old display models? They can't sell them, right?

I've heard a few stories of members getting some display models free from Lego stores in the Sales and Deals forum. Does TRU and the other retaileds do the same thing, just give them away? Do they keep them in the back? Or maybe they give them to the employees?

The reason I'm interested is because my local TRU has many Star Wars displays, many of them expensive sets. The glue that they use to hold the models to the display looks like simple hot glue, easily removed with a knife, I think.

So, in a nutshell, these are my main questions.

1. Will my TRU give me the display models if I ask a manager?

2. Do they glue every brick together on the models, or just the model to the display case?

3. Will the glue come off easily?

4. Do you think they will dump the old models for the Clone Wars ones?

5. Will the bricks and figs be good as new when the glue is removed?

Thanks in advance,

DSR

1. I really doubt it :hmpf: If they do, they probably want a high price.

2. I don't know. :look: It's not as if I can open the display to see!

3. Again, I'm not sure, but your assumption about the glue seems right.

4. YES :sweet::sweet::sweet:

5. The glue may leave marks on the models.

Normally, the displays are taken back by the representatives. Last time I asked for it in a store, they told me that the whole Lego shelves were managed by TLG (including promotion material). Now, I'm wondering what TLG does with these displays.

They put the models away, not in the trash, but in the storageplace. You just go and ask: what have you done with the models from last year? And if the person you asked to it is nice he/she will give you the model. They may not sell it, they got it from LEGO and may not sell it, under any reason. I have got two Racers crashing in each other, every piece is glued, but you can't get them out of they're plastic box (unless you screw it open). But I like it that way.

in small displays they glue the backside (Wheels and such), cause in my local toystore some idiot tried to break one open, it worked, but he can't take a model with him, because it was glued.

For big models, i saw on a lego event in my neighbourhood a clone wars display, and on the backsides there where metal bars and such :-S

i think you should look to the backside of the model and take a look how many glue is on it. and i don't think it will easely come off...

karto: promotional material like cardboard's with a picture, they don't resend it back, it goes to trash, becuase i have one from the same lego event from the new clone wars sets (some cardboard marketing stuff)

1. Probably, if I remember correctly these are considered rubbish when they've outlived their usefulness, and as such are thrown away when their time is up.

2. Yes, they glue the models together.

3. No.

4. Yes.

5. No. That's because the glue is a reagant that reacts with the plastic, causing the bricks glued together to litteraly fuse together. If you do get split apart, consider yourself lucky if you manage anything that looks like a dog ate it.

In short, if you get a display case with display models, it's for display (i.e. not intended for play), so don't expect the wheels to be turning if you get one of those Turbo Tanks, for example. You should also expect the assemblers to have done mutilations to the models, just to get the right effect while in it their case (i.e. screws, rods. The lot, really.).

edit: I speak from experience, since I received a display model once. Can't say I'm interested in another one.

There is glue on, and it is almost impossible to pull it of.

I know because I've got the 7237 like that, with glue on every(well, most of them) brick, but this can be different on each display model.

Wow, that got replies quick! :classic:

Well, dang, I had hoped they only glued the model to the case, not the whole thing...

Its strange though, at my TRU, a Castle display had a few detail bricks on the top of the turrets that had fallen off to the bottom of the case, that's mainly why I asked about that.

Oh, well, maybe if I ask about this at my TRU I'll get lucky and find out the employee thet put it together was too lazy to glue the whole model!

Hooray for optimism!

I wonder why they even bother with making these display cases anyway. They waste perfectly good sets just to advertise the same thing thaat's on the box. And the boxes show more mostof the time!

I for one couldn't do something like that to a perfectly good set. Ugh.

LEGO Stores give them away (usually to employees) Wal-Marts/Targets/TRUs ~ don't even bother with them ~ you'll never get em', and K.B. Toys gives em' away.

Really - cause I just asked about the display in my TRU - and they're going to contact me in a few days about it....

That's probably not proper procedure.

Licenced items are returned to LEGO if they say so, otherwise it is to be destroyed. Think they want those things popping up on EBAY? As for other items, I have no clue how other stores deal with them.

Atleast on ebay.co.uk I’ve seen loads of the shop display models pop up, though I’ve yet to buy one.

Typically models aren't glued together and I've seen times in TRU where the display may be missing parts. I don't think buying off ebay would be best.

when your display model is missing parts, then you should go to

http://www.lego.com/login/retailers.aspx and then go to "display models" and then service and click on "order parts.[[[did you actually click that? it was a joke! MuHahaaa]]]

...

Wow, umm, that was mature....

I haven't called my TRU yet. If anyone wants to call, please do! I am really eager to find out about this.
