Dark Sword Ragnarok Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Hey all, I recently came across a few old figs ( the ones with the smaller cross on the bottom of the torso), and I've heard you can use them for a few different arm tecniques. The only one I know of is pushing one of the horn peices (Example. You should see the horn part i'm talking about.) What I want to know is if there are any other tecniques for using the old torsos? I'm trying to make a cyborg Sith character, and I figure that I can use one of the black torsos I found. Any help would be appreciated! DSR Quote
Oky Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Interesting Topic! Well, basically you can stick anything that can be hold by a minifig hand into those holes. What's special about the old torsos is that you can push long sticks such as lightsaber blades all the way through! Here is an example: So, if you want to make a cyborg, you could use two of these TECHNIC pieces for the arms and stick an EF robot claw into each of them for hands for example. Or you can use other robot arm pieces like this: What's also fun to do, is to stick a flex tube through there and attach minifig hands at the end! Thereby, you get a guy with really long arms like this character from the anime "One Piece": But you can always get creative and insert all kinds of random pieces in those holes. Just experiment a little, and you will be able to create mutants like this: Oh, and there's also a very interesting arm technique for the modern torsos: You can find some ideas on how to use this technique here. For even more ideas, you can just search Brickshelf - as you can see, it's full of them. HTH. Any questions? Quote
Dark Sword Ragnarok Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 (edited) Ah, thanks Oky! I couldn't find anything on brickself last night except for the BrickFA technique ( the last one). I've actually tried it before (about a year ago) and found it wasn't a very reliable way to customize figs (legs always came out from pressure, couldn't get the legs to face the right way, ect.). Maybe I was just doing it wrong... Anyway, thanks for the ideas! DSR EDIT: Quick quesiton, does anyone know if you can use a cut down peice of the harder flex tube and a regular minifig arm? ( So that the minifig has a regular arm and a robot arm?) Thanks in advance! Edited July 17, 2008 by Dark Sword Ragnarok Quote

P.S. Nice "One Piece" figs Oky. Any more? Edited July 17, 2008 by Zepher Quote
Oky Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Nice "One Piece" figs Oky. Any more? No, sorry, they're not even from me it's just a brickshelf find. Quote
JimBee Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 While we are on the topic, can someone please tell me how to properly remove an arm from the torso? What I do is rotate the arm so its facing out, as if it were holing an object, then pull back. While works most of the time, the arm sometimes cracks or even breaks. Quote
Sir Dano Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 While works most of the time, the arm sometimes cracks or even breaks. You must pull gently, padawan. That's the only way to get them off. Quote
JimBee Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 You must pull gently, padawan. That's the only way to get them off. I do... but it still breaks... ah well maybe I don't know my own strength or something... Quote
Dark Sword Ragnarok Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 I do... but it still breaks... ah well maybe I don't know my own strength or something... Holy crap, are all your minifigs super brittle or something? I've never broken a minifig arm im my life, nor have I heard of something like that! Anyway, on topic, I haven't been able to find any tubes for this yet. I thought I took one with me for this on my trip, but I guess not. I will find some on Tuesday when I get home and hopefully get some cool ideas! In the meantime, if anyone else wants to try these ideas, please do! DSR Quote
hunterx Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 ive used the ba technique but do you use a full grill peice or cut it in half. Quote
Dark Sword Ragnarok Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 (edited) ive used the ba technique but do you use a full grill peice or cut it in half. I used a full gril, why, are you not supposed to? Anyway, I'm almost done with my old torso custom fig. Also, I think I may have discovered a new technique with the new torsos, but it does require a bit of modding. I will post it in the minifig customization workshop when I take pics! NewRight Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I meant to get around to posting in this thread sooner, but never got around to it. MOC I found that demonstrates how to implant minifigs in concrete and I think it worked quite well. Quote
Dark Sword Ragnarok Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 That is very cool, actually! By the way, check out my new thread demonstrating my new technique. DSR Quote
Shadows Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Good topic, but I think it would be a little better suited to the minifig customization workshop, so I'm going to move it over there. Thanks! Quote
