Doctor Sinister Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 APRIL 14th, 1984 "It was a bright cold day in April and the clocks were striking thirteen." "The voice came from an oblong metal plaque like a dulled mirror which formed part of the surface of the wall. The instrument (the telescreen, it was called) could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely." "A coloured poster, too large for indoor display, had been tacked to the wall. It depicted simply an enormous face, more than a meter wide: the face of a man of about forty-five with a heavy black mustache and ruggedly handsome features." "The thing that he was about to do was to open a diary. This was not illegal (nothing was illegal, since there were no longer any laws), but if detected it was reasonably certain that it would be punished by death or by at least twenty-five years in a forced labour camp." "It was one of those pictures which are so contrived that the eyes follow you about when you move. BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU the caption beneath it ran." Dr. S. Quote

Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 *shudders* that was the freakiest novel I've read! I love the effect, DR.S! I look forward to replicating the poster. Quote
tin7_creations Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 i had to read this for school, the novel albeit freaky, I fell in love with it, all that imagery and hidden meanings. i'd like to see more of it to come, perhaps you can make the scene with O'Brien and Winston in the little trip into Room 101. Zepher Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Wonderful book, wonderful vig. You captured the feeling well! Quote
Quarryman Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 (edited) Poor Winston. You've done a great job capturing the atmosphere of the book, though Big Brother looks too nice. (but I guess that's how a LEGO Big Brother would look ) And this also reminds me that I should read 1984 again, it's frighteningly relevant in today's world. Please make more 1984 MOCs, I think there are lots of potential for good MOCs there. And we've always been at war with Eastasia. Edited July 17, 2008 by Quarryman Quote

A haunting moc, but sadly, all too familiar a feeling in these dark times we live in. It's only going to get darker before everything changes. Quote
rupi Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Very nice vignette I like the claustrophobic mood of it. And I sure recommend reading the book Quote
