Clonie Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Huh? It looks nothing like me. Well I didn't mean literally.
Bfahome Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 v_v I wonder what they'll look like in the movie. They already have fingers… :P
Clonie Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 (edited) I wonder what they'll look like in the movie. They already have fingers… :P Pretty close to the sets then. Yayzorz. I hope they're all in the damn movie. Norik was basically the only Rahaga who did anything in Web Of Shadows. And the Metru Nui Matoran weren't even in Legends Of Metru Nui. EDIT: Ah, the life counters definitely aren't spinning tops. Skirmix's counter is integrated into his body. It's that black piece behind his neck. Edited August 24, 2008 by Clonie
S-N Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Reason why the sets now have fingers. :P I think we have seen movie depictions can stray pretty far from the sets, as they did in 2003-2005 (Rahaga helicopter blades, anyone?). I believe, though, that Tinseltown Toons is making an effort to stick closer to the sets in the 2009 movie, and the set designers in turn kept the movie needs in mind when they designed the '09 line.As far as the whole "Mata Nui pinholes and gaps" thing -- trust me, won't be an issue. I can't say why, but you'll know by the end of '08. Greg
Bfahome Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 (edited) I wubs u Gweg. <3 EDIT: Ah, the life counters definitely aren't spinning tops. Skirmix's counter is integrated into his body. It's that black piece behind his neck. WAIT. Now THAT is win. Edited August 24, 2008 by Bfahome
S-N Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Mata Nui pinholes and gaps? Lol yeah, I think he was referring to the topic starter, about "what if Mata Nui was a set".
Bfahome Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 I think it was said that he'll be a system set…
Clonie Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 (edited) *Goes quote-hunting.* The mask I am referring to actually will be a part of 2009 story, not simply a device to make 2009 story happen. That said, it will NOT be the object of a quest, as we have done the last couple years, nor will it make an appearance before summer 2009.Greg I think the question raised by Maxilos' post is this -- what does "sound BIONICLE" mean?Let's look at it like this. Let's say I do a story that starts out set in China, with Chinese characters, all of whom have Chinese surnames. In the second half of the book, the hero journeys to Norway, where there aren't a lot of Chinese surnames flying around. Does it no longer "sound" like my story, or have we simply shifted locations? BIONICLE up to now has been set mostly in one place -- the domed Matoran universe -- we are no longer there in 2009, so logically it would not make sense to have the character names in the new setting sound like the ones in the Matoran universe -- no more than it would to have a Norwegian city filled with Chinese characters as opposed to Norwegians. The goals of 2009 are these: 1) Hopefully, have an interesting enough ending to 2008 that people want to stick around to see where we go next; 2) Create a story that new fans can jump into relatively easily, without having to know the entire last 7 years 3) Put enough "Easter eggs" into the new story that old fans will enjoy it and will know that the first 7 years have not been abandoned or forgotten or retconned out -- that 2009 follows up on 2008, just as 2006 followed up on 2003. 4) Introduce some of the elements that made 2001 work -- a new place to explore, new characters to meet, new enemies, new weapons, new skills, new creatures. Unlike the Matoran universe, where by now you know the white hats from the black hats and whose side everyone is on, you have to learn the players and the game anew in '09. A whole new treasure trove of secrets to uncover, mysteries to solve, theories to theorize and fan fiction to write ... Beyond that, check your "BIONICLE is this or that" at the door, is my advice. If you get bogged down in, "But in the Matoran universe it was like this!" you are going to miss getting to judge '09 on its own merits. You might see the potential in the new story/setting or you might not ... it's a risk we are taking and we know that. But the alternative was to keep padding the current story until people got fed up waiting for some kind of resolution. So as you go into 2009, just remind yourself that you aren't in Kansas ... er, the Matoran universe anymore, and the old rules don't apply. Have fun learning the new ones :) One other thing I will share -- initially, your reaction to 2009 will almost certainly be, "Hey, what does this story/setting have to do with (name of 2001-2008 BIONICLE character/setting/plot development?" And the answer is -- a lot more than you think. A lot more than you think. Greg Well, guys, I will tell you -- we know full well some of you won't like the new direction. Some of you will. In a sense, this will bring BZP back to its year one too, since it will no longer be a place where veteran members know everything about the existing universe -- it will be new for everyone, just like 2001. (Heck, who knows -- BZP may end up being the main fan site for fans of the old story, and some new site might spring up for fans of the new -- I don't know.)The people who stick around for the new story arc will find out the secrets of really core mysteries of 2001-2008 that could not have been solved without us leaving this universe. The people who bail will not. And if, frankly, you decide to leave BIONICLE because you don't like the naming scheme, I have to wonder if you weren't on your way out of the door already. (To be honest, I have mostly seen complaints on here about the names chosen for the last few years, under our old naming scheme, so it's hard to make an argument we should stick with it beyond 2008 anyway.) Bundalings Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Reason why the sets now have fingers. :P Interesting... this is good, I guess. I think it was said that he'll be a system set… Where was that said? Not that I would really mind, but he was listed as a canister set on The List. ~Bunda
Nightmare Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 But, Bunda, remember that Mata Nui is a ROCK. Otherwise, he would have the pinholes and gaps problem
Ikki o' Moopyville Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 (edited) Only if he stays in that body... And since he's being made as a set, he pretty much HAS to have the pinholes and gaps, meaning there's no way he'll be the rock giant we've come to know and love. Ah, poor big guy. -Ikk Edited August 24, 2008 by Ikki o' Moopyville

iLego94 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Guys, we know that teridax is outside the matoran universe in anti-dermis for. We know that he recently knows where mata nui is. We know that Teridax can take over bodies, and we know that mata nui controlls part of the universe with out being awake. So, wouldn't it make sense if teridax did take over his body? At least this would be his plan. Maybe, the Nuva will save MN's spirtit somehow and put him in a new body. I just want to know who was the originator of the makuta takes over MN theory, so I can credit them in part when I present this theory to greg. ~iLego
Pencoin Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Yes thats what we have been saying for the last how many months! This story is going to be very similar to a book I read once. The first half of the book starts fairly normal, A bunch of kids go and defeat the bad guy, bla bla bla. Half way through the book The timeframe changes to around 20 years later. The legend told is that the kids defeated the bad guy and became heroes bla bla bla. Now a new bad guy (who is quite similar the old one but isn't) comes and cause trouble. Most people think it's the same guy as before so they send some more kids to go and find the heroes so they can stop him again. They do lots of adventureus stuff and everytime they reach where one of the 'heroes' is they find out a little bit of what really happened before each one commits suicide. What really happened was that the bad guy was killed but he planted a 'evil thing' into one of the heroes. The heroes knew this (except for the actual victim) and knew he was going to turn evil but they didn't have the balls to kill him. So the new heroes go and kill him. The end. That isn't what I think will happen to Bionicle but I think it will in excution. The 2009 story will be completey nothing to do with 2001+, but as time passes (begining when Mata-nui appears) we will slowly find out what this has to do with 2001+.
iLego94 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Pencoin, I know you guys have been saying that. I was just showing you what i going to send to greg. I wanted to know who came up with that theory here to credit them. ~iLego

Ikki o' Moopyville Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Mata Nui can't change his shape, which must logically include his height. So there. Also, all Matoran are inside him, so... not sure what you are saying. If you're talking about the 2009 characters, what's probably gonna happen is a new body for big ol' MN. Seems simplest and most likely, all things considered. -Ikk

Ikki o' Moopyville Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Good question, actually. We've never heard of Mata Nui being outside his body before, so we don't know what kind of things he could possess -- maybe we'll find out next year, as he struggles to find a way to get back in the body of the Great Spirit... -Ikk
