I learned not to get my hopes up for long-awaited sets when I saw the bastardizations of my beloved Nuva. As we've seen from 2006 (the Matatoran-Toa) and the 2008 Nuva, sets arn't designed with a character in mind.

Sigh.

I'll have to get the Ignika some time, if only to have the *real* Mask of Life.

Gold, White and the Ignikaga, Inika Build (but the armour that Lewa nuva has) Golden new sword, Thornax, and perfection!

Whoops, I forgot to add that he would have a old head and he would have the 'shoe' Inika feet.

More edit! The Ignikaga is my name for what would happened if it went 'Nuva' as the Hau gained a kind of maine the Ignika should gain some wavy spikes in the same vein but keeping the symbolic Mata-Nui figure!

Durn, I went to two or three different stores today, and I couldn't find any of the Gltorians. If I could get to a Toys R Us, I would probably have a better chance of getting them, but alas...

My image for Mata Nui... something completely different from what we've seen in the builds for the past few years. Maybe an older build, like a revised Mata build, with a Mata head and everything. That might be pretty cool, IMO. I can't really decide on what colors I want. Maybe a combination of a whole bunch, but all proportioned so it looks really nice, y'know?

Not really dude :( TRU looks like a friggin bomb went off inside. I have gone to about every store I have ever known to have the set, but thanks to the way the US economy works at this time, they will not have the sets for a while. All the the stores do about now is clear out old inventory. I remember getting my Piraka in early december, around the 10th. But, I have a plan for all of us set waiters. Just wait until someone gets a set at a store, and then go to the store!

That's just common sense, to be sure, but what if the store is nowhere near where you live? That's usually the case since the first stores to get them are never anywhere near most Bionicle fans. Funny, but twisted.

The only sensible thing to do is to wait for at least 3 reviews then start systematically checking local stores every week. Chances are you'll find what your looking for on your third try.

I like most of those ideas, but I wouldn't really want a new Ignika design. I'd prefer a golden version of this year's Toa Ignika.

This year´s Ignika? Well, I´m not sure if I´d want to wear a cap with my own body on it...

That's what I'll do :) Anyways, what would really make my day is summer pics, however grainy they are :)

GOOD NEWS!

When the 2009 set of the Returning MU Character was designed, did the set designers know which character they were making? Or was it a case of 'set first, character later?'

Yes, they did know. This was a rare year where story came before set design, because the story had to be done early for the movie.

2009 just keeps smashin' all other years away!

2009 just won, Bionicle has become good again, not to metion everything else which is brilliant!

To cemet this postion, we need to see the summer pictures and combiners then we just wait through the year for the storyline!

It's official - 2009 is the best Bionicle year ever. I seriously can't believe how hard this year is rocking, and it's not even here yet! I think now I have faith that the Mata Nui set will be at least decent, since they are going to actually be designing a kit specifically for him, instead of designing the kit then slapping his name on the canister.

Oh man, that's great news! Means no repeat of the Phantoka/Mistika fail-nuva. At least, I hope. *prays for golden Ignika of this year*

Agreed, agreed, agreed. Say, when is the earliest we can expect leaks of the summer sets?

It's true, isn't it? Everything about this year seems so exciting. The sets have returned to greatness (colours! colours! no silver overkill (yet)!), the story sounds fine, movie sounds great, I sound great, everythign sounds great.

While I personally thought that the Phantoka were far more win than fail, I totally agree about the Mistika. At least now we don't really have to worry as much about them messing up our favorite characters, since there's only one returning and his set is being tailored to his personality. :pir-classic:

Well I joined EB because there were pictures of Bionicle vehicles, so January I guess!

What would we do without you, Pencoin. On the subject of the Mata Nui set, though, I'd just like to remind people that the set designers DID know who they were creating when designing the 2008 Nuva sets. This shows in the Phantoka, though not in the Mistika, where the original Nuva-esque prototypes were rejected by focus groups.

If focus groups desecrate Mata Nui, there will be mayhem. =P

Well, when I first saw the Phantoka I was really disapointed. Pohatu was the worst of em all IMO, while I could find, if I looked very hard, some resemblance in Kopaka and Lewa to their old forms. All in all, I disliked them. Then the Mistika had to come along and prove to me that LEGO could indeed mess up things even worse. The Mistika Toa have to be the worst of all Toa LEGO has released so far (and I thought the mahri were bad). And aside from Krika, I didn't think much of the Mistika Makuta either. The Phantoka Makuta were much better, imo, mostly because they were bats (and I like bats) and they didn't have an oversized blaster.

I gotta be honest, I thought the Toa Phantoka had plenty resemblance to their old forms -- where they failed were in their overly rehashed designs. <3 Pohatu for his orange and for his mask. =D

But next year the set designers not only know that they are mortalizing Mata Nui himself... they are doing it in a year where so far all the sets are fantastic. That's a great promise, and I can't wait to see what they can do with the summer batch.
