Hey all,

I've recently acquired a rather nasty virus by the name of IBIS Toolbar (a.k.a. HuntBar) that's steadily infiltrating my computer in very horrible ways. If anyone can provide me with some good virus removal programs (I use HijackThis, Spybot S&D, and AdAware at the moment) or an easy set of instructions to remove this particular virus, I'd be much obliged. It's pretty annoying.

Thanks,

Bloody Jay

Hmmm....I had that threat too. (Just discovered today, and removed today...)

Are you sure it is a virus? I use Microsoft AntiSpyware (Beta 1) and AVG Antivirus. AVG couldn't remove it, but Microsoft AntiSpyware did a pretty nice job. You can download it free from the Microsoft website...

I'll try that out and get back to you. Thanks for the advice! Question; what were the symptoms of yours? I get:

- having to click multiple times on links to get them to work

- computer slow-downs

- images sometimes don't show up

Some of my syptoms were

-Computer slow downs, most definately!

-The same link clicking problem...

-Can't log in while veiwing secure websites and passwords are sometimes not reconized! (Happened to me while processing an order on LEGO S@H and logging into Eurobricks forum! :oo

I hate these little viruses!

P.S. Be prepared to reboot your computer a couple of times while removing the virus threat (when prompted by the program)... ;)

Yeah, that link clicking problem is a total megablokker. *devil* It's even worse when trying to post something! Running MAS now, it's picking up a lot of juicy stuff. We'll see how well it turns out!

Be warned, though, for a full scan, it might take a while (close to an hour or more!)...However, for a quick scan, it is very fast. My quick scan was as fast as only 15 minutes!

I really hope it turns out well! ;)

Finished! I think that did the trick! Thanks a million, that saved me a ton of trouble! :')

Oh great! :| *wacko* Try this manual removal:link to eTrust Spyware Information Center-IBIS Toolbar

EDIT: I wonder why the Antispyware doesn't work didn't work. You should run a full scan. Upon veiwing the results, select "Remove" on the dropdown menu next to IBIS toolbar. Next, click "Continue" on the bottom. A confirmation dialogue box will pop up. Click "OK". Wait for it to remove it and restart your computer. After restarting, if a dialogue box pops up saying that some files aren't found, it is normal. Actually, this is your comfirmation that the spyware was removed. Hoped this helped!

It hasn't resurfaced again tonight (did a full system scan last night), so I'm hoping everything's back to normal.

However, when I shut it down last night (before doing the system scan) my computer started beeping like crazy (while shut down). It didn't boot up the first time I tried, though it did the second time. Scared me to death - I just bought this drive, and it'd be a real pain to switch to the other one.

Weird stuff. *wacko*
