How exactly do I adjust the hinges in the shape above so that the two blue squares on the left align vertically?

You will need to adjust your frame construction e.g. with 4070 bricks and brackets. the way you built it wouldn't work in the real world, anyway.

This was eventually accomplished by fine-tuning the angle of each hinge by hand
