Hello everyone,

For this contest I was actually puzzled about what to actually build. So I did the only logical step and went to Brickset and searched by year what technic sets have been released in the past 20 years and chose 1 out of each year that was interesting and that could fit the challenge.

The idea

After the elimination round there were left the following: Claas Xerion 5000, Mack Anthem, BMW M 1000 RR and 42069 Extreme Adventure. In the end I really wanted to build the Claas (the Zetros tractor tires would have been perfect) but I chose the BMW since I never really did a manual bike before.

I think this will be a nice challenge to build in a smaller scale. I am using the "standard scale" moto wheels, so the build should be around 65-70% the size of the original set.

I want to keep the same style of solutions used in the set (gearbox with 1-N-2-3, suspension, the radiators, etc..). The goal is that, if you have both the set and the shrunk down version side by side, you really can tell they are made to look the same. I am thinking I will need to print some custom stickers (or just buy a set sticker sheet and cut it to size).

Progress

Since the wheels I am using have only 1 size, I will be making that size as an average of the actual wheel size. So far I have made some quite nice progress, and I'll start with the mock-up scale chassis:

And I worked yesterday quite a bit to create a mock-up version of the 1-N-2-3 gearbox, just like the set. It still needs to be build professionally, same with the suspension.

In the photo below you can also see the sequential shifter. The cool part is how I made those green 3L bars (1 on the bottom of the subassembly) to be travel limiters, so you can't overturn the crank and disable the mechanism.

I am really excited for this build!

Thank you for reading.
