LegoLuckyDip Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 Hi there! I've been working on a series of minifigures based on the Watchmen comic book for a few months now, and finally have bought enough pieces off bricklink that they're almost done. But I still have an order left to make, and wanted to get some input on what pieces I should use for the final figures (which I'll be photographing with a better camera than the phone I took the following pictures on). I've included images with the alternate parts I'm considering for each character, as well as artwork from the original comic for those unfamilar. Thanks for taking a look! Quote
Yoggington Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 For Doc Manhatten, I like the undies (B). Yes it doesn't match as well as A, but it adds some humour and a focus to the all blue mini. I wouldn't change out the torso. For Silk Spectre, Torso A would be my preference. You could try adding Minnie's skirt, but I don't think it really works? But the legs alone don't really work either. Perhaps this: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=65753&name=Minifigure Skirt Plastic Straight, Short&category=[Minifigure, Body Wear]#T=S&C=3&O={"color":3,"iconly":0} Nite Owl B is great (unless you can add boots somehow). Rorschach is pretty solid either way. Comedian B I think edges it? Pretty great regardless. For Ozymandius, I think head A is definitely better. I don't love any of the shoulder options, but number 2 is best of them. Some options for you: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=35049#T=C&C=115 https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=2188#T=S&C=110&O={"color":110,"iconly":0} Quote
LegoLuckyDip Posted June 16, 2023 Author Posted June 16, 2023 (edited) Thanks so much for the feedback! You're the first person to go into detail, so I really appreciate it. I agree about Dr Manhattan, especially since I've landed on using the Senate Commando torso, which should help with the "V" underwear look, along with the black underwear. For Silk Spectre, I agree that A is the best torso. As for the skirt, I should have been more specific - the Minnie skirt is only printed with polka dots on one side, the other is plain yellow. I considered the plastic skirt you linked to when initially designing - might return to it, depending on how the inverted Minnie skirt turns out (I also had the thought of seeing how the figure looked with Mark 2 Rex's skirt cloth, and don't mind the results https://imgur.com/a/ONA1KKj). Agreed with Nite Owl - I've scoured bricklink for dual molded brown and light grey legs, but no luck. I'll keep an eye out for them in future figures though. Comedian I'm very split on, so it's good to have some input. Also considered Dr Strange's salt and pepper hair, so if I get one sometime I'll see how it looks. As for Ozymandias, I've already ordered the alternate head, so I'll see how it looks. I do like the addition of the headband, but its definitely not the right expression. As for the shoulder pads, I don't think anything is going to be perfect, but agree that 2 is the best of the available options. I did notice some new golden shoulder pieces in the new Ninjago line that aren't parted out on bricklink yet, but you can see in this review here https://youtu.be/ufAsUYbDLgs?t=439, so I might try those if I can find a set. Thanks again for the input. I'll be sure to upload the finished photos here when I've got all the parts Edited June 16, 2023 by LegoLuckyDip Quote
Yoggington Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Oh Minnie's skirt inside out? That's very clever and should work yep. Good thinking. Quote
