Captain Green Hair Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Hey folks, It appears i killed one of my 9V train engines and now i'm trying to open it to see what is wrong. I can't get it open for some reason, so maybe somebody has some advice on this? Thanks in advance! Quote
AgentRick Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Well, heres a picture of a disassembled motor, thanks to Legomatic And here's a picture of the Motor carriage with the bottom removed Hopes this helped a bit. Quote
BillytheKid Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Only to get a trainmotor open, is difficult. You've to break it open with force on the right places. And when the elec motor itself is broken, you've to replace it. Only where to get those....... I think it's beter to buy a new one. Quote

Well it moves a bit and then stops, it could also be a problem with the gears. Do you know where to apply the force to open it? I tried, but it didn't work... Thanks so far guys! Quote
Matija Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I am afraid the only way to do it is to cut the small thingies that hold it in place... but they are quite resistant, so make sure you don't cut your finger as well (learn from others' mistakes *cough*, not your own!). Here is a nice picture-guide, just ignore the DCC part ;) Quote
BillytheKid Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I was confused with 12v motors, those are glued. The 9v motors are clicked together. Just use a knife to break the clips, they you should be able to open it. When you remove a little coin somewhere, the motor should run smoothly again. I've once done that for another person, who had exactly the same problem. To glue it together, I suggest to use paperglue. In case you have to open it again. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 Thank you all, i now know how to do it. It's a strange problem, the engine runs fine at the moment, but after a short period it suddenly stops.. Has anyone had a similar problem? Quote
simonwillems Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Has anyone had a similar problem? I had something similar some time ago, though it had nothing to do with the motor itself but with the wire leading from the net-current to the transformer, the worn wire got a loose contact from time to time bringing my railwaybusiness to a non-scheduled stop... But I assume you checked everything else to make sure the problem lies with the engine and not with anything else? Quote

Yes, my other engines run wonderful..... Quote
