massmagic Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 (edited) Hi to everyone! I'm trying to restore a baseplate 32x32 that comes with set 6399 (Airport Shuttle).. BL part 309px2 While cleaning a red ink stain on the baseplate with isopropyl alcohol, I noticed that in a zone of the baseplate the white line of side road was almost removed by alcohol.. never happend with other baseplates. Can someone suggest me with kind of white paint can i use for restore the part of paint that alchool has removed? I can't find any infos about what kind of paint was used by lego for those vintage baseplates.. Thank you in advance and have a nice day. Edited January 20, 2023 by massmagic Quote
MAB Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I would use multiple thin coats of a white acrylic primer. I use Vallejo paints on most plastic models I paint (not just LEGO), but for this I would stick with just the primer. It gives a flat, fairly matt finish and is quite hard-wearing. Quote
massmagic Posted January 21, 2023 Author Posted January 21, 2023 Hi MAB! Thank for your answer, I will try a Vallejo white primer :) Do you have some infos about which paint was using lego for baseplates in 80-90? It's really strange that white line paint was removed by isopropyl alcohol .. Quote

Probably just a standard matte acrylic paint. Printing with UV-curing paints wasn't really a thing in those days and enamels don't respond to isopropyl. Any modelling acrylic like the one @MAB suggested will do. Mylenium Quote
